SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS VS. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS GAMEDAY THREAD

His overall performance was good, but his complete body of work today did nothing to distinguish him CLEARLY above Smith as a guy who should be starting for the rest of the season.

Kaepernick is awesome, but he played the worst defense in the NFL. Let's look at the positive versus negative:

Positive:
-Speed put pressure on defense and his running was got us some first downs and a TD.
-Bigger arm allowed him to fit in some of the intermediate throws better.
-He displayed the fact that he is a right-hander that can roll left and find receivers perhaps better than any other QB in the league.

Negatives:
-He had multiple delay of game penalties
-He had an ugly fade that was nearly a 100-yard pick 6.
-He had an INT straight to a defender because he didn't use his eyes and blindly threw a pass that an experienced QB wouldn't have.

Other notes:
-We played the worst defense in the entire NFL and scored less offensive points than the opponent.

Overall, B+ game from Colin. But not enough to win me over yet.

This, this and this. Could not have said it better. I'm as big as a critic of Alex as I am Kaepernick. Or Tolzien for that matter. People play favorites around here.

If not for our defense, who actually looked kinda bad today at times, we would not have won the game. That, and the refs were killing us with BS calls in the first half.

Anyway, Kaep looks extremely good, but makes some really bad plays. That interception was completely on him, not the bad snap. He didn't see the defender underneath Kyle Williams and gave the Saints an easy pick. And that throw to Moss in the endzone was God awful. We were extremely lucky that wasn't a pick six. Well, extremely lucky Moss mauled the guy lol.

B+ is a fair grade. I'd give him a solid B.
his throws were put in places that allowed the receivers to catch the ball and continue to make a play..something alex doesn't do

AJ Jenkins, hope you're ready to play.

Im thinking AJ and LaMichael will get a chance to play. I hope so anyway...... speed kills defenses...............
there is no reason to feel bad for alex, his career is resurrected and he's going to get paid to be a starting qb somewhere else

this. I hope Kendall hunter is okay!
Kaepernick played great tonight. Dropped passes and penalties made him look not so good. There was a lot of pressure on him in the first half also.

Sounds like the same excuses people make for Alex.

I agree with most, and would add that Colin didn't get sacked once today where Alex would have at least 4 or 5 times. I think Colin has better pocket awarness and short area quickness to avoid sacks. I do think Alex is better at getting us into the right play at the line, espeacially runs. This is not the worst defense in the league right "now", which is when were playing them.

I havent seen the 49ers get that many penalties in a long time. Alex doesnt make some of those passes and he probably wouldnt have extended the plays Kaepernick did. I like Alex a lot and think he has the right to start but Kaepernick led the team with his arm, Alex struggles a lot when we have to rely on his arm.

Couldn't agree more. Kaps legs avoiding sacks is a huge advantage he has over Alex.

Kaepernick - 16/25 240 yards, would've been more if not for the dropped passes and stupid penalties. The refs calling Crabtree down when he was still up, Vernon's dropped 20 yard pass, holding on Crabtree's 30 yard catch and run. I mean come on!

This performance was amazing, Kaepernick made throws Alex would never dream of making, and would've easily had over 300 yards passing. Also, Kaepernick looks like a master of getting away from pressure, Alex would've been sacked at least 4 times.

And do not forget, this is only his second start! Even his one interception should not have happened because he was getting low snaps all game and that one hit the ground!

I am starting to think that some people are just mad he is not white, especially those who would prefer Scott Tolzien over him.

Or maybe they're just in love with Alex.

With Tatts!
To be honest, that did once cross my mind before. I'm a Kaep supporter though

well, at least he's 1/2 and was raised by white parents

Yeah except Kaep still had an all around solid game.

Excuses get thrown around for Alex every time he fails. Here is Kaep, playing pretty f**king good while the holding penalties and drops are still a problem.
