This changes things a bit. If this is true, I have agree with doubters out there.

Jim Harbaugh said the plan was to give Davis practice repetitions at both right and left tackle.

Davis as a OG? Yes. As a back-up OT? Uh, well, I'm not so sure.

I can't figure out anything we're trying to do at RG. I guess Harbaalke is trying everybody everywhere just to see who can do what.
But you're right, I can't imagine a 375lb Davis moving his behind fast enough to deal with DE's off the edge.

Either that or he's flat out lying to the media.

I don't see why he would do that. It would be silly, IMO. What teams are going to be "fooled" during the regular season by lying about who is playing where? The preseason games are what teams will look at, not reports out of training camps.

I think Harbaalke does not want to make any assumptions. If he wants to give Leonard Davis a look at T, TE, WR, S or whatever, fine, get it out of his system.
I mean look at Miller, he made a huge position switch, so why not push the standard assumptions just to see if it could work?
not to thrilled with this signing since i see the team as fairly disciplined and davis is a high draft pick bust and a very penalized ol. not for sure what he brings to the table except veteran mediocrity.

You're right. That comment didn't make much sense. Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote it.
Anyway, I'm not suprised that Harbaugh is going to try him out everywhere on the line to see where he fits best (if at all), but my best guess is he'll be the starting right guard when its all said and done.

you got a untested guy and a bunch of kids with possible potential plus a guy with a broken foot in a vital vital area of the team.. no they needed to get a vet like davis or kyle kosier in here and i am very pleased with the signing. it also gives us depth and you know someone will get hurt as the year goes. the line must get off to a better start than they did last year. Last year it took them 3/4 of he year to start to play

Really hope they can gel quickly this season and help the offense to off to a much faster and more aggressive start!

agree. I know some can always trace thier woes early to alex but that line play was god awfull for 3/4 of the year. yes we are probably better off without two of those players but we just can not "hope" that the deletions of them will make us better and we "hope" the untested one and the kids can do the job, thus there was a real strong need to bring in a vetern who could do a very respectable job for us for a year untill some of the kids grow up and our draft pick with a broken foot heals up(i am still a bit upset the coaches could not find someone other than a guy who had a broken foot to draft)
This is gonna be an epic matchup with Boone (who held up against McDonald at RG yesterday) but then got pwned by Aldon Smith (at T?) and Davis. Who will be in the best shape (Davis down to 355), best at run blocking and best at pass blocking?
Im looking forward to Davis, dude is a huge human. we could still end up with 'the right side of Davis' if the dude makes the team.
My god that picture of him in the training camp photos on the 49ers site is HUGE!

Ignore the cowboys stuff but this would compare him to probably an average man.

And looks like Terrence Newman is trying to not look tiny compared to him.

I'm not expecting much but at worse if he makes the team he's a solid veteran presence. Maybe he can come in on goal line? I think Boone starts and it comes down to Kilgore probably being the backup center and if we would want Kilgore or Davis at backup guard. We'll have to see if Leonard is his old self to see if he is worth keeping. I know he had a huge penalty problem with Dallas

This guy turned out pretty good for us for a few years.

Here's another guy that's gonna be playing his soul out. On the verge.
I'd hate to have to pay his food bill.
