this is great news. He was one of the major cogs in the win over the Lions. 4 kicks inside the Lions 20.

Probably posted already but Maiocco's Twitter....
Source: Punter Andy Lee's six-year extension with 49ers is worth $20.5 million with $7.1M coming in first two years.
So about 3.416 million a year.... saves 3.5 million compared to the 4 we thought.
Not bad considering TB signed ATL's Michael Koenen to a 6 year 19.5 million dollar deal last year and his career average was 42.5. Lee's is 45.7 but since 07 it's 47.97

Lee is more important to the team then Goldson. You can make case that the Front 7 makes the secondary look great. Lee and Akers are two of the best in the NFL, and a great tandem. Goldson I fear had 2 good seasons due to contract years.
Dashon Goldson has had ONE good season. He also had one mediocre season and one terrible season.
I have no idea wtf you guys are talking about. He has had 2 great season and one good season when he has started 14 or more games the last 3 years. He is young and will only get better from this point. He deserves to be paid; Andy Lee is a great punter but I dont think he is the best in the league; Lechler has a bigger let than him still.

Ok and he is being paid like he is top 5 in the league so what is your issue? He doesn't have to be best in the league to get the money they are giving him.

Also read that the 20.5M is over 7 year total(2012-2018), and includes his $1.1M base salary for 2012.

Andy Lee's base salaries are as follow:
2012- $1,100,000
2013- $1,800,000
2014- $1,900,000
2015- $2,050,000
2016- $2,833,000
2017- $3,433,000
2018- $4,134,000
That's a total of $17.25M of the $20.5M reported, which leaves $3.25M left in some form of bonus.
I'm not sure if they count his leftover pro-rated signing bonus from his previous 6yr deal in the new deal.
But if it's 3.25M, it would pro-rate over 5 seasons, either 2012-2017 or 2013-2018 at $650K a year, if it's a straight signing bonus.

Andy Lee's new deal is expected to put the 29-year-old in Shane Lechler territory as far as salary. Lechler to earn a base of $3.8M in '12. http://www.avufo.info/g.gif

Lee's salaries are:
2012- $1,907M
2013- $4.05M
2014- $2.4M
2015- $2.55M
2016- $3.33M
2017- $3.433M
2018- $4.134M
Lee received a $2.5M signing bonus over 5 seasons, so $500K a year, plus he receives a $1.75M roster bonus in 2013, which will become guaranteed if on roster on fifth day of 2013 league year, along with his $1.8M base in 2013. Also his $1.1M 2012 base is now guaranteed.
He also has incentives for all-nfl team, not factored in, but they are $25K a year, he receives it in 2012 for making 2011 all-nfl team in 2011.
Edit: Messed up on his 2017 salary, should only be his base salary, since his bonus was pro-rated over 5 seasons(2012-2016).

This happened a lot last year:
Offense stalls at our own 30 yd line
We punt, other team starts at own 10
Defense stops them (3 and out)
Other team punts
We return it their 40 yd line and are already in FG range
That's 30 offensive yards on account of the punter, defense, and punt return team. And it all starts with the punter, so it's a worthy IMO.

Bingo. If our offense is only average with that kind of "head start" this team will be almost unbeatable.
