Morgan has never been in the same league as Manningham except their rookie years.....but morgan got on the field more.
Manningham has actually taken over games whereas morgan has not even come close to a factor in any game like Manningham has. Even 2 years ago when Eli was viewed as a good qb bordering on a little inconsistent Manningham had about 1000 yards and 9 tds. Morgan cannot get open, Manningham can.

BTW Manningham does a lot of things well. He can get open deep and also he can make something happen on bubble screens. I think Alex can hit him on those atleast lol
Seriously, Manningham can get open, something Morgan has never done consistently, hell not even once a game. Once Alex has Wrs that can get open like vd, he will make most of the throws.

Ya i do agree with this. Screw what MM did w/ Eli and the giants. Lets see how he does in OUR offense before we anoint him or tar and feather him.

Our offense is pretty pathetic though

Morgan had more than 6th round talent, but he was nowhere near as good as Manningham.

Have you ever watched Moss play? He's probably one of the most talented people ever to play football. second best reciever to Jerry Rice, almost an instant TD on a fade in the red zone. Edwards had no TDs last year and dropped a few in the end zone. HUGE upgrade over Edwards. Manningham is faster and better on deeper stuff then Morgan, and Crabtree is entering the same offensive system for the second year in a row. Recieving corps is much better.
Crabtree if he goes to camp finally. Moss I expect him to work for it, it's a job and a love you only get so much time, ask jerry. Manningham is a upgrade at this point, josh morgan was coming off a leg injury, good job not over paying.

My view as well. Overall, they're at par.

I woulda liked to have em both
Morgan much better blocker, locker room leader
Manningham quicker, faster, more likely to make big plays
Its an updrade for us, but I'll miss Morgan

While he may struggle with consistency at times, Manningham is twice as explosive, flashes more big play ability, and most of all, can seperate.... a trait dearly lacking from our wr core last year.
We landed Mario Manningham at roughly half the price of Josh Morgan. While we can't expect an Eli caliber qb throwing the ball, he will see more looks in our offense than he did last season (due to to the lack of an established number 1 wr to take receptions away) and will be an 50+ catches, 800+ yd receiver year in and year out.
Great move by the front office!
Watch these highlights and you will see the quick twitch, gamebreaking skillset that has been lacking from our wr core for quite some time.

Manningham is a descent upgrade, but not a major one over Morgan; nevertheless, getting a better receiver at a lower price than Morgan is a huge win in my book.

LOL
Morgan has one OK season, followed by a few good games the next and now he's on the verge of a breakout. Dude is mediocre and will remain mediocre. I liked him when we got him, but he quickly became overrated amongst 49er fans.
Manningham, meanwhile, was 56 yards shy of 1,000 with 9 TDs in 2010, then was injured last season. In 2009, he was over 800 yards with 5 TDs in his first real action. He would have gotten a lot more looks if not for injuries and Victor Cruz being such a beast.
Manningham is better and it's not close.

Probably about a wash production wise, so based on what they signed for Manningham is the better bargain.

This.
A future, HOFer (even if he isn't near his best) > Braylon Edwards. That was a horrible comparison.

To respond to the question in the thread, Manningham and Morgan bring different things to the table. Morgan was the better blocker and route runner whereas Manningham has more big play ability. For this offense, we need a few guys to DBs have to respect. It will open up things more for everyone involved. I liked Morgan, but a receiver of his caliber can be found in the draft. I'm hoping we can pick up two in the draft that we can develop. One to replace Morgan and a guy to be a potential big play receiver for the longterm future (Tommy Streeter anyone?). Only question is, with the receivers we already already carrying, it looks like Kyle Williams will be the odd man out. Williams is a better receiver than Ginn, but Ginn's value to the team is greater than Kyle's.

I believe when it comes to the overall skill set at the wideout position Manningham has the edge. He also has alot of big game experience. Josh is the better blocker has good intangibles and chemistry with Alex but the fact of the matter is i believe we are valuing him more than what he is. If he wasn't a niner before we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Also that piece of horse crap Morgan simply left for more money to a garbage team and organization soooo fvck him
Josh Morgan is dead to me.
Yah lets hate him for wanting more money. lol
I don't hate him, I'm just mad at him.
