SF knows where it needs help: 49ers expected to pursue a free-agent WR and use one of their top draft picks on another WR.

Is there any 49er that is more over-rated than Delanie Walker?

Walker is not over-rated; he's a back-up for god sake and a productive backup at that. Some just want to draft Fleener in the first for a team that don't need a TE, thats all.

The point is, if you can pull the trigger and bring in someone a lot bigger, more physical, a better scoring threat, even say in the 3rd or 4th round, do you do it, or is Walker still "a very good TE, we don't need anyone else."
I agree 100% with Phoenix. The guy just hasn't made plays. Yes, he is a 2nd TE, but Alex loves his TE's, Harbaugh loves his TE's, we are usually in 2TE sets, and TE's can be huge in the red zone. Delanie has proven he IS NOT a good enough TE for our system. An upgrade is needed badly, and can offer way more bang for the buck than a WR in our system.

People aren't thinking with the times. It used to be that back in the day, a TE was a big, slow, lumbering guy who blocked and make occasional catches. Now you have tight-end's that are bigger, stronger and as fast as or faster than most wide receivers. For an offense that relies on 2 TE sets as much as the 49ers, having a major receiving threat at the 2nd TE spot would be a tremendous advantage for the offense and a disadvantage for opposing defenses.
Give it a few more years and I can see 2 TE sets becoming pretty prevalent, having two 6'5, 6'6" guys who can block their asses off as well as make catches and be weapons in the red-zone is just another evolution of football.

Call me crazy but I'd rather have a guy who's good at playing tight-end and is a legitimate red-zone threat than a jack of all trades and master of none.
The above tied to a salary of 1.9 million for 2012 to me makes him potentially expendable. I wanted to get Gronkowski in 2010 and people flamed me because Walker was such a stud.
