Is there any 49er that is more over-rated than Delanie Walker?

Bottom line, these dudes get paid millions to catch a ball.. He is a "pro" what would happen to you if you couldnt perform your job well? I think he is over-rated and i really dont know how he got the nickname of "jack of all trades" hell, even last week a short kick off landed right in his chest and he still muffed it... his play is unacceptable in my books. I really dont care how well he runs routes and gets open. What good is that if he doesnt catch the ball??

21 catches and 9 drops (4 of which were touchdowns). Nahhh hes not as bad as we think. lol
Yeah, I'm going to have to walk that statement back as they say.
From Pro Football Focus: "Delanie Walker's drop rate of 30 percent (21 catches, nine drops) was worst of any running back, wide receiver or tight end who had 30 or more targets. But Walker did have the second-best run blocking grade for any tight end."
Vernon Davis is already a good run blocker. Opposite him, it would be better to have a TE who is a natural receiver.

Even though he has had his drops he consistently beats coverage and is a hell of a blocker in any alignment. More valuable than he gets credit for

I have been a huge supporter of Delanie Walker since he was drafted, but he has dropped & fumbled a ton of balls this year.
Yet, he has come up big on offense at times too.
So he's been essentially a 50/50 player this year. It's kind of a conundrum for me as a fan. Consistency would be nice. He lacks it now.

LOL......this myth about him "beating" coverage is pretty funny too. When you've got VD on one side and on the other, the guy who's more likely to drop a pass than any other receiver in the NFL, who are you going to focus more of your attention on. He's been the recipient of sagging coverage as teams are overall less concerned with him than guys like Crabtree, VD and Moss. With as open as he is, he SHOULD be making more big-time catches, not dropping passes in the endzone like he did again last Sunday.

Regardless of whether he actually beats coverage or is just wide open because attention is on other guys (and I think it's more of the latter than the former), he can't catch. I'd like us to draft a better TE high (as I did last year) and either have Delanie Walker as the no.3 TE or let him walk.

The first thing the Niners need, hopefully moving up in the first round, is a big strong defensive lineman. After that, I'm all in for a TE.

For all the Delanie Walker Haters, Are You Kidding me???? Delanie is very UNDERRATED, seems like you're all pointing at his negatives, cause in that case we gotta point at vernon to, how many times have u seen Vernon Drop a good throw, Yes he's caught many good ones, but so has Delanie.
Having Vernon and Delanie is a Tandem of two very fast tight ends, who more than 80 percent of the time catch the ball, I just think the hating is unncessary, Ill take our 2 TE's over any TE in the League! Jus Sayin!
And that Means when ever Delanie does somethin for us, i dont' want any u haters cheerin for Walker!

Delanie isn't under rated or over rated.
To me, he can be easily replaced.

Actually, statistics indicate that 30% of the time, Delanie drops it. 2 out of 3 ain't bad though, I guess.

Ill take Gronk and Aaron Hernandez any day of the week. Gronk for Davis would be about a push and we would be getting a steal with Walker for Hernandez.

Think what you want. I'm not going to change your mind.
The only people who matter are the coaches and Kap. They both trust Walker.
Now you can herp and derp elsewhere.

It really makes little difference. Whether it was 7 drops or 9 drops, it's still far too many. I've said as much in multiple posts already.
PFF is one source out of many. I still find it odd that other sources list him with 7 drops. Perhaps the statistic is more subjective than I believed it to be in the past. It may also be that they are just not updating that statistic as quickly as they have with others, like you mentioned.
In any case, my point was that you've made up your mind on the matter and nothing anyone else says is likely to make a difference. You're obviously very passionate about the subject, so I'd rather not have a pointless argument.

Right off the top of my head, I can think of two easy TD catches that have klanged off his hands and one of them would have won the second Rams game. I like a lot of things about him, but he's got to catch those passes in the playoffs. I don't want to see another pass floating into Walker's hands and have him drop it. It's that simple.

Just to clarify, the issue had nothing to do with the number of drops. You claimed that he had a drop rate of nearly 50%.
