Is there any 49er that is more over-rated than Delanie Walker? | Page 25

Just asking. I keep hearing that the 49ers shouldn't draft a tight-end because they've got one great TE and one "very good TE." I'm just trying to discover what this is being based off of? -His career high of 330 yards receiving? -His career total of 5 touchdown's? -The fact that he's 6 feet tall, considerably shorter than just about every other tight-end in football? -The fact that up until this season he had fumbled the ball away more times than he had scored touchdowns? -After the Giants game he went the rest of the season without a reception and dropped a few key passes during that time. I just don't get the hype. Yeah he's a good blocker and a so-so receiver, but he's also extremely under-sized, seeing how frequently the 49ers use 2 TE sets, I think its rather foolish to say "oh no, they don't need to improve" when you've got a rather ordinary 2nd TE by all accounts. I'm just trying to figure out where the hype is coming from. He's a solid player and a good stop-gap but to go out and say "no, we're good, we don't need anymore" when New England had 2 tight-ends with basically 1000 yard seasons, when Carolina has 2 TE's going 6'5", is very short-sighted. Yet I keep hearing on the Webzone and pretty much everywhere else "oh, no, we're good, we have two good tight ends, we don't need anymore", like this self-perpetuating mythology that has built up.

Coaches always love a guy that sells himself out on blocks, especially on d-linemen.....a D-Walk is a pro at that....

And sells out on special teams.

Coaches love a number 2 tight end who can block well, excel at special teams, and has speed and some WR abilities.

He is a quality roster spot and is active for every game for the last several years. People need to give the guy a little credit. He made a great athletic play on that TD. If he gets the ball in his hands, he is a play maker.

i dont really believe he is overrated..a solid #2 that produces in more ways than stats..hes a vet with experience and id rather have him than an unknown

He's had a few rough pass catching plays this year but he is ridiculously valuable. He does everything well. He's made some blocks this year that made for some long runs and yac that most other TE 2's could not.

He's just having a bad year catching the ball. Still a good player. We will lock him up this offseason.

in preseason it seems like he always catches Kaep throws...it might be the velocity

My nephew knows Colin K - saw him at a casino in Reno on the by week - asked him who was the best athelete on the 49ers - and Colin said Delaney Walker was. This surprised our family.

he can block, he can return kicks, he can catch sometimes, plays STs..he might be right?

Dudes been a beast this year with his blocking but his pass catching was a little suspect earlier in the year.

These last few games he's really stepped up in the receiving department.

If he can do this consistently then teams won't be able to double VD as much and if they do D-Love can make em pay.
