Alex Smith - lost for the season.
We are screwed.
The backups are nowhere near ready.

I'm not as concerned about our passing offense like some here...remember, WHEN we needed to pass, we have passed VERY well. Remember? Being down 21 in Philly? Being down on the road in Detroit? When we needed a drive, we did it? When we needed to blow out an opponent, we did? Nail in the coffin?
Don't dismiss the big picture fans...when the situation required it and throughout the year, our offense, including the passing game, has been very efficient and effective. I have no doubt in my mind if Harbaugh game-planned to a spread, wide-open offense where Alex was calling audibles, we'd tear it up with all our weapons as we all know this is where Alex excels esp. in a two-minute, hurry-up offense.
Has he missed some throws and big plays? Of course...but then again, when you throw one long pass to every 10 short to intermediate-range pass and predominately run effectively, you'll be a "little off." Not an issue...now that Crabtree and Edwards are both back and playing their natural positions, you can expect more wrinkles and big plays. Morgan was a bigger loss than most realize as it affected the other two WR positions as well.

As to my biggest realistic fear? The refs. Seriously. If we play a tight game, we could lose on a critical call. Last weekend, we clearly scored a TD on 4th down and even with a review, it was STILL called short. Calls like this clearly change a game. Had that been against a team that was capable of using that momentum, it will hurt us. In this scenario, if it was ruled a TD against the Browns, that's 17-0 right there and another one or two additional possessions in the first half which could have nailed down the game in the first half and we could rest players in the second half and get some more experience for the backups and/or work on additional offensive wrinkles. Instead, we had to make a long drive at the end of the game for a closing FG.

November is the biggest concern... Washington is winnable but it starts the period of 4 NFL games in 19 days. Im hoping the exhaustion shown at the end of the Browns game was more from coming off a bye week then being tired at mid-season.

yes, my biggest fear is that this is not real life, and we're all sharing the same dream...waiting for that kick to bring us back to reality.

Injuries. The Niners have solid starters but little depth in most areas.
