Just an awful thread. I shouldn't be surprised... really, I shouldn't. So now Alex is Dilfer or less? Unbelievable... I just don't understand this thinking. Can we clear something up? Alex CAN pass and pass a lot... He can put up big numbers if asked to... but he's not asked to. So if he's not asked to... then WTF? Why should he just chuck sh!t up? ... and when he does, where does that usually get us? Do we have, or have we seen playmaking deep threats on this team? Not so much. I just think it's laughable that peeps want to shove Alex in the "can't throw it deep .. can't throw it often" category. Bottom 5 OL... sub-par or inconsistent receivers... Frank Gore and Hunter.... Yay sure! Just have a chuck-fest and pitch it up!
.... and yeah, these 4-5 pages? didn't read... full of terrible, I'm sure....................

Its amazing what 2 months of winning will do to the memory of 7 years of losing......

who actually read the article? It makes some good points, and is basing the assumptions on how good the player was and what kind of career they had a the time they won the Super Bowl. The reason they say Bradshaw is the worst is because at the time of his first Super Bowl he was awful, and was benched at one point that season.
If this was Alex's first season as a starter he wouldn't be in the discussion. But given the way his career has gone up until now its a valid question. If anyone--even the most die hard Smith homer--says that they thought that Alex would be in this kind of discussion 6 weeks into this season they are lying.

I knew he would turn it around, I just thought he wouldnt be doing it in a 49er uniform.

Bradshaw maybe a 9er hater, but he is no where near the worst QB to ever win a SB title. You can't be the worst when you win 4 of them.........
I agree with this statement; however, alot of quarterbacks could've won 4 superbowl with that defense.
Read the article, using some statistical mumbo jumbo, they hang the "worst ever" crown on Bradshaw!
"Bradshaw was a below-average quarterback. His advanced statistical record contained one season that came close to average, 1972, but it rates out as similar to what Smith did during his 10 starts a year ago.
The clincher, though, is that Bradshaw was actually benched during the season in which he won the Super Bowl! As far as we can tell, no other quarterback has ever been benched and gone on to win the Super Bowl during the same season."

I would love it to have Alex be the worst QB to win the Superbowl, because that means Alex help the 49ers win another Superbowl. I can careless how he got us there or how he did it. Look at Tony Romo he has really good stats during the regular season and been to a couple of pro-bowls, but never took his team to the promise land let alone win one. I am happy where Alex is right now, compared to where he was in the past couple of years. I am excited to see where he will end up during the rest of the season, hopefully winning the Superbowl like the poster mentioned.

Wonder if he still hates Montana? Still can't believe he was better than Hanratty...but he was!
A lot of good QBs listed in that article. Many were tough leaders kind of like S. Hill when he was with the 9ers. Lacking in physical talent but all kinds of leadership ability. Others were rated out of context as teams did not pass as much in their era.

this thread is stupid. lets get alex some receivers who actually go for the ball first. crabs has been the only receiver i remember to go after the ball when its in the air. morgan was good too but thats about it and morgans on IR. our team is not ready to let it rip yet. it takes time to build an offense and the run usually comes first. if we can consistently rush for 200 a game like the last few weeks and our passing game gets around 200 yards thats 400 yards and a very well balanced offense that should scare teams to death. field position has been great this year with our special teams and all the turnovers we forced so our offense really didnt need to throw much.
