but come on man.. this is a whole new system all around. lets see if our STARTERS can perform against STARTERS. then we can worry about backups next week.. I mean its understandable but that doesnt make it a smart football move.. to a extent
i agree with you i actually think the starters should get more time but harbaugh is working first hands with them and if he believes the first team is day 1 ready then lets see who our backups are

With the lockout having as much affect of teams as it has, getting prepared, being in synchronization, this would be the most important game of all, and wow, were going to see a rookie who (im sorry to break hopes) has no chance of starting week 1 (OR succeeding even if he were to come in late in the season due to smiths poor play, an injury ETC,) play the majority of a game where teams amongst the league play the most realistic game plan??? bad move JIMMY. smith and this offensive core need to get the work, not the rookie unless of course he seriously believes he would need to be ready to play this season. in which case if he did, this season is already tanked. So really, where is Jims thinking with this as far as getting this offense better and there still being a 4th preseason game for kaepernick to play the entirety on??? why would smith not play at LEAST one whole half.. why not even a quarter?? Were putting our eggs in his basket, why not just put them all there, and get this guy as ready as possible for Week 1 Vs Seattle???? Anyone have any opinion on this?? Good? Bad?? please leave feedback but this just kind of disturbs me.. Smith and the Offense need to do something against a potential playoff team in houston. Performing against the raiders does not say much we can all agree. Bad move jimmy.. bad move. I know we havent played yet, but even this Mentality is bad. Someone calm my nerves..
The Sky is falling!
They play 4 preseason games for a reason. Just because most teams use the 3rd game as a dress rehersal for game 1 doesn't mean the niners can't do this in the 4th game. It would be nice to see where the guys on the bubble and the guys who are going to be back-ups stack up against starters. Its a good idea by Jimmy. He doesn't want to cut future starters.

I see in that extra space between your two sentences your struggle to just say something positive and leave it at that. Alas, you are not yet strong enough for such a feat!

Well its true to question him now would be pointless. But once the losing starts then the doubts start coming out.

Jim Harbaugh needs to start consulting the webzone before he starts making all of these ridiculous moves based on his own intuition as a real coach.

I'm sure it will be Kap in the 2nd quarter and Alex starting the 3rd to experience Harbaugh's halftime prep/adjusments and coming out with rhythm after a halftime break.

It will be interesting to see Kap actually playing with the starters. He has not about average so far playing against 2nd and 3rd string, but he is also playing with 2nd and 3rd string players. I am curious to see how he does with the starting O!

I don't like when QBs get yanked in and out of the line-up... it breaks their "feel" for the game at hand... but I guess I understand it. It will give Kap some important reps, and also really shows that Harbaugh is already sold on Alex to go into the regular season.

he won't be questioned, instead Alex Smith will be blamed.

-Q: Will Alex return to the game after he exits and Kaepernick plays?
-HARBAUGH: It’s possible. It’s possible. Like I said earlier in the week, you want to get your starters as many situational situations in the game as possible. And he may return for two-minute drill or another series. Could be just kind of see how it plays out, make a battlefield decision out there.
I’d like to get some “backed up,” I’d like to get some two-minute with Alex…
