There's a difference between losing or winning in the preseason as a result and being honest about the way the team performed.
As much as no one wants to admit, over recent years, the team has had MANY problems that were clearly indicated during preseason games that ended up being proof to the teams poor performance during the regular season. Whether it was bad coaching, bad QB play, terrible O-line performance, blown assignments, poor clock management, poor decisions on reading defenses or the same players making the same mistakes, it has ALWAYS carried into the regular season, everytime without fail.
Even when scrub players were making meaningless plays in the 4th qtr to win games and go 4-0 last year, the starters always looked like crap, or the O-line made mistake after mistake. The same thing holds true to the year before and the year before.
It's plain and simple......Holdout, or not, new coaching staff or not, new players or not.....The players can either make plays or they can't and as it showed lastnight, the same players that always come up short every year are the same ones that came up short lastnight.
Does that mean the season is lost or that we're doomed? Not at all, but what it does show is that we are definitely in the same boat that we have been in for almost a decade, and that's not good.
The only thing that we can hope for is that this time we have a coaching staff that can get the job done. Whether we do or not, no one can answer, but the look on Harbaughs face lastnight in the 4th qtr is all the proof you need that this is going to be a long, long season.

Man I have no words for you. We went 4-0 the past 2 years in the preseason I believe. I'm pretty sure no one was saying "I's just preseason" because we did so well. You are the prototypical fan who likes to be negative and then will disappear later when we do turn things around.

best post I've seen on these boards because its the truth 100 percent. It should be another losing season for the niners. the QB's and OL still suck and as long as it stays that way, the losing seasons will continue. The only thing the niners got going for them is that they play in the worst division in the NFL's history, its the reason why most of there wins come only within there division.Originally posted by RipFigler49:LOL!!! Bottom line: If you think this season will be much of an improvement record-wise over last, then you don't know much about football. New Head-coach, new D Cord, new O cord, new system, NO OFF SEASON with just like 12 practices under their belt... what did you think would happen? It will take time. I think we'll be like 7-9 this season, only cuz we will win some that we aren't supposed to. Yes the O-line looked bad, they are also learning the scemes and it was the the FIRST preseason game. Let's settle down and let it play out. Try for once to enjoy the ride.

ummm 4-0 last preseason. Just sayin'. Last two preseasons, we had the league's leading rusher. Sing focused on winning every preseason game. Harbaugh is focused on developing the squad. We'll see if he can get it done w/limited time, but he's got an impressive staff, and I'm gonna go ahead and watch some more games before I scuttle the ship

I'm still calling 10-6 this season! Talk to me when the Niners actualy gameplan for a team and have more than 12 practices under their belt and actually have all their starters on the field.

Glad the weaknesses are in pre-season which gives us time to fix it and get prepared for other blitzing teams.

You know what to be honest...this post does have a tingle of reality in it. That said...the difference now is coaches who know what they're doing. All we can do is hope that it will be the difference maker. We've had a multitude of QBs, players, systems, etc...the common denominator was poor coaching.

Some times I wonder if some of you posters are living on this planet or on some kind of alternate reality. Have any of you been paying any attention at all to what's been going on. NFL teams have had about a week and a half to practice. Do any of you think that ANY offense has had time to work on complex blitz protection schemes. The Niners have been installing plays and working on basic formations. They haven't even started working on blitz protection schemes. The Saints could have pulled that stunt on almost any team in the league last night. Don't you guys get it? Hey were hazing Harbaugh and trying to embarrass the franchise.
I think the Saints embarrassed themselves in the eyes of people who actually understand the game. If they're so damn good, why didn't they just play our offense straight up and stop them like our defense did? Did they need to pull out their bag of tricks to beat our offense? Calm down, everyone. If the Niners haven't worked enough to handle blitzes by the time the season starts, then we have a problem. But that no-class trick the Saints played last night might be just what the Niners need.

First off you're obviously a previously banned member since you cliaim to know what hapened since 2005 even though you're only a member, 2nd the 9ers actually looked pretty good in a few of those preseasons. I remember after last year's 2nd or 3rd preseason game vs the Vikings the 9ers played really well, we pretty much owned their first team and everyone thought we'd do well. JTO lit it up in the 08 preseason and got owned in the regular season, tossing ints left and right. So your history lesson is flawed dude.
