I can't wait to see this defense attack other teams and force them into mistakes and turnovers, unlike last few years where we just prayed the other team would mess up and give us a turnover

I think Clements for Rogers is close to a wash . . . dollar for dollar it's a gigantic upgrade.

I say resounding YES!.. We loaded up the back end of our secondary and dat shud help da deep ball. We got a upgrade with Rodgers over Clements, nailed down the SS spot(problem area), resigning Goldson breaks us even at FS,Culliver,Williams, and Smith add depth. I'd probably still upgrade Spencers spot( I think he'd be a great 3rd. CB), but if we stay pat here, I say were still better.

We upgraded it automatically by hiring Fangio, drafing Aldon and teaching Willis how to pass rush and designing blitzes for him and the ILBs. The pressure we put on offenses now will be better, which will greatly improve the secondary.

The whole fiasco with Lewis last year left question marks at the SS position, but now we have Whitner who is a damn good saftey. And Carlos Rogers is much better in coverage than Clements, who might make a good SS at this point in his career but was smacked around like a b***h trying to be a corner last year. Better talent, trust.

To me, the better question is, "Did we add a difference-maker?" The answer is no.

That is the difference between us, and the rest of the NFC West division this year. Each team added difference-makers. We didn't.

While I agree that the 9ers did not add any difference makers on D, they did bring in some heady players who may develop into a better unit. Edwards has a chance to be a difference maker on offense but it's too early to tell. If you hate Smith you probably think it doesn't matter who the WRs are, but if Smith shines in Harbaugh's system then the WRs will likely look good (can't look much worse than last year!).

As far as the rest of the west goes, they all have their own issues and new coaching staffs...so who knows?

Yes, and Culliver apparently is progressing in camp. Although Adams is not at playing shape as he is still getting into shape, Terrell Brown can be the back up. If Adams isn't quite ready, maybe we go with Brock, Culliver, and Brown as the backups and PUP Adams so that he is ready in Week 6. Holman is out for the year so that is essentially a redshirt for him.
