Better question, if he didn't have concusion problems how many more years?
What was he, 38 or 39?? He was at the end of his career anyway, MAYBE a 1-3 years.

I believe he just turned 38, he is only 8 months younger than me. I remember being at the gym working out and starting to feel old and creaky in the late 90's. That feeling turned to panic knowing #8 was probably feeling worse than me as I wasn't getting drilled by 250 pound linebackers who run 4.4's. Steve might have lasted another year or two at most. To look at the bright side Lawrence Phillips blocking skills saved us from watching Steve hang on too long and embarrass himself and us fans.

Steve was smart enough to see the team was getting old, and having to struggle to beat teams we used to kill with ease, he probably knew the whole team was headed downward.. He might have left either way, I just wish he didn't go out the way he did, I wish we had made it to the playoffs or superbowl one mroe time with him & Jerry.
