ILB: Willis, Bowman, McKillop, Grant
OLB: A Smith, Brooks, Applewhite, Gibson
CB: Spencer, Rogers, P Adams, T Brown, Culliver
S: R Smith, Whitner, M Williams, Spillman, Mays

Extra Spots: Masoli, C Taylor, C Beeler

Usually, I have a pretty hard time figuring out how to get all the players I like onto a 53 man roster. This year it's not that hard, which makes me a little worried about the quality of our roster. And certainly, some of these positions that look a little thin, like QB and DL. So I would not be surprised if some of those "extra spots" are taken up a third QB and a 7th D lineman.

Okay, I've revised my roster my based on OTC's comment about Zeigler being on the PUP. I gave that spot to Masoli, figuring that he could play special teams and be an emergency back up at both QB and RB. But I would rather see a vet QB get that spot.

Also, I'd like to point out that I know Mays is on the trade block. But I'm not sure we're going to get an attractive enough offer, so I have us hanging onto him. Obviously, that's another spot I could end up being wrong about...

I think (barring injuries) the roster is mostly predictable this year, but I'd suggest a couple of changes from your list.

First, Harbaugh announced Masoli would play the 3rd QB role instead of RB. Not sure that'll stick, especially if the right vet QB is released by another team during preseason. In any event, I believe he'll spend most, if not all the season on the Practice Squad.

I also think Norris is out. He's just not versatile enough for Harbaugh's offense, not even useful as a decoy. I've penciled in Corcoran, but wouldn't be surprised to see the Niners pick up a FB from other teams' cuts.

And for some reason I think Haralson will be cut. I just think the Niners will feel they have more promising developmental players, and who better fit Lord Fangio's attacking defensive schemes.

Wouldn't be surprised to see 2-3 players on the final roster who are not on the team today, and some familar names cut.
Updated roster prediction:

Ok, so I decided to do my own, I usually like to stear awat from this, but here goes.

Now, I dont wanna say their are no locks, but the obvious ones are, VD, Willis, J.Smith, McDonald, Iupati, Gore, Whitner, Goodwin, Akers, Lee, Jennings, Staley are to me locks.

I also would say Sopoaga, Spencer are locks, though If we had depth, I would be for releasing them. They haven't lived up to their contracts.

As for draftees and other signees, as the list of locks are IMO the top players on the team.
Culliver, Kaepernick, Aldon Smith, Alex, Braylon(Only because anything can happen, not saying it will).

Guys that will make it but Im not 100% sold on are; Crabtree and Anthony Davis.

The guys I think can shine and end up on the 53 man; Grant, Applewhite and Costanzo.

Guys that I really would have no issue cutting; Haralson and Norris

Updated prediction:

Offense
QB - Smith, Kaepernick, Culpepper
RB - Gore, Dixon, Hunter, B.Miller
TE - Davis, Walker, Lawrie
WR - Edwards, Crabtree, Morgan, Williams, Ginn, Johnson
OL - Staley, Boone, Iupati, Goodwin, Kilgore, Person, Snyder, Rachal, Davis

Defense
DL - McDonald, J.Smith, Sopoaga, Jean-Francois, I.Williams, Dobbs
OLB - Brooks, Aldon, Haralson, Applewhite
ILB - Willis, Bowman, Grant, McKillop, Costanzo
CB - Rogers, Spencer, Brown, Brock, Culliver
FS - Goldson, Spillman
SS - Whitner, Reggie Smith

Special Teams
Akers, Lee, Jennings

Notes: Mays is finally traded. They attempt to put Colin Jones on PS. Adams barely misses cuts due to not being recovered from last season's injury. With Snyder, Kilgore, and Person being swing players I believe Wragge could be cut since he's only on a one-year deal. That is, unless Rachal is released or traded or another OL player gets seriously hurt.

i like, with the exception of Wragge being cut, but if he is expendable, it is sad, since he was quickly re-signed in FA.

I also wanna know what your thoughts on Dobbs and Tukuafu are? I had Tukuafu, but I am more leaning now towards DeMarcus Dobbs. He had a nice game this past friday in NO.

I wouldnt mind keeping Adams, but he has injury issues. So no big beef their.

The 6th WR spot should be interesting. I like Jurovich myself, but am a fan of Kyle Williams, Its his injury is what gets me.

Other than that I love the idea of that 53 man team, get Culpepper as a vet. And I love that someone has Costanzo on their 53 man. It is clear he was signed for Brad Seely. He wanted him on his ST's.

Tough Cuts:

Easy Cuts/Trades:

SS Mays & RG Rachal

Its clear, we are nicely set with deals for 2013 and beyond. Not many FAs after 2012(Mai9n guys being Spencer, Sopoaga, Lee and Walker)

After this year, Alex, Braylon, Rogers, Gore, Brooks, Morgan, R.Smith are the main ones. Minor are Costanzo, Grant, Applewhite & Snyder.

Wow, so many tough cuts...

-I'd be placing Colin Jones on the 53
-I think Curtis Taylor has a lot of potential but is probably cut
-I agree with commentator that Dobbs disappears if we place him on PS
-this preseason is all about watching Applewhite (did not impress at all)
-B. Miller makes the team as the ONLY fb. !!!

very possible with with Miller. But for some reason I think due to their friendship, I see norris on the roster.

Applewhite is interesting. I did not see much out of him, and wonder if his success last year was due to the talent around him, rather than his own skill.

Based on what I saw in the game, Kenny Rowe could steal a final LB spot on this team. I think if Applewhite and/or McKillop is cut, Rowe will get that spot. Just simply a productive player who will be a very good special-teamer and reserve LB. Not eye-poppingly athletic when you look at the measurables, but on the field, he's a whole different player. Plays much faster and was simply a productive pass-rusher at Oregon.
AB, only disagreement with your roster would be Adams. I would be pretty upset if we cut him. Either way there are going to be some tough cuts. Would also be surprised if we cut Chilo. He would at least be a good backup but I guess it hurts him that he can really only play 1 position compared to 2/3 that the others can.

FB will be interesting as well... I could see keeping two but probably if they think of Miller as an emergency backup OLB.
I think Applewhite, Colin Jones, and Phillip Adams all make the team.

Applewhite was a starter on a good Chargers team. If he doesn't do anything in any preseason game then maybe he gets cut. But I think he will.

Colin Jones is clearly the fastest guy we have on special teams coverage. I think that will get him on the team.

Adams is is one of only 4 CBs on the roster with any real game experience. I think he makes it over Brock. But it's very possible they both make it.

going into the season with only 4 olbs would concern me, id like to have at least 5 on the roster. id guess rowe or joseph makes it. either that or we add a vet who gets cut.

I think that's only 52.

Keep Phillip Adams. Replace Costanzo with Colin Jones. Person will be safe on the practice squad, and then we can keep Wragge or another player we like.
I don't see B. Miller beating out Norris. He is a rookie, who is transitioning from DE in a shortened off-season. He'll be safe on the practice squad too.

Also, I think we can go with 5 WR. We have athletic TE's Harbaugh can split wide. I don't see what Ginn brings to the table when you can now kick the ball into the back of the endzone most of the time. Kyle Williams or Ronald Johnson should be able to easily fill that far less important role for the team. I would much rather carry another player at OLB or CB. I was not a Ginn fan before, and with the new rule, I am even less of a fan of his.

I hope they keep Rojo but we do we not keep -- Norris? Person to PS?

Also, you don't have Williams at S and I think he makes it over Spillman
