sing had absolutely no place being a head coach in the NFL. Its amazing that someone with so little knowledge of schemes and game planning was actually able to get to the point of HC

I agree that Singletary ended up being worse than Nolan. But I can't deny I was stoked about how we played after he was made Interim. The whole "I want winners!" thing, and how we won most of the games the rest of the year had me stoked.
In hindsight it's easy to see that he shouldn't have ever been a Head Coach; I wanted to punch his turtle face every time he said 'have to look at the film.'
Anyways I hope he does his thing in Minnesota.

Nolan, and here are the 2 main reasons:
1) from the moment nolan decided to draft Akilex Smith just because he didnt ask any question when Nolan told him to do some jump rope, made me realize that we made a mistake hiring him..
2) the moment he started to wear a suit on game day, i knew he really isnt made to be an HC..

Singletary got less production out of more talent. Add in hiring Uncle Fester to be our offensive coordinator. He gets the edge.

Exactly. Singletary had the table set for him in 2010. Easy schedule and the talent was ready (besides him letting Dre Bly go... and yes it was his call).
He was the reason the team played like it did. He deserves all of the blame.

It is a tough call. Singletary did soooo little with sooo much more than Nolan. Howevver, Singletary should have never been a head coach. He did the best he could, but was incapable of producing because of his lack of knowledge of the X's and O's. It was a learning experience, and I would not be suprised to see him as a HC in 5-7 years, with a much better understanding of staying away from offense.
Nolan inherited a ridiculous roster and turned it around, but never produced a winning season. He got just a little bit better each year, but then failed miserably in the end. He also drafted Alex Smith...
I think it has to go to Nolan, because Sing was practically given the job and put in a position that he had no business being in. Sing also lit a fire under Vernon's behind, but Nolan has not produced a whole lot in any of the drafts.
With a good GM, Nolan may have done much better.
With a good offensive assistant/OC, Sing may have been much better.

It wasn't Nolan's fault Norv and McCarthy left. McCarthy wanted to draft Alex. It wasn't Nolan's fault Alex got hurt in '07 either, the guy just had terrible luck here. Sing had everything there for him, EVERYTHING, and he just looked like a child.

I'm gonna have to say Singletary was not only worse than Nolan, but was probably the worst coach the 49ers ever had... and probably the worst head coach I've ever seen.
Singletary was out-coached in almost every single game. He obviously had no idea what he was doing and there was no way he was going to change. He didn't have the ability to adjust or adapt even after it was obvious to everyone (coaches, players, fans) that he didn't know what he was doing. He was in over his head. Last season was a disaster.
I hope Harbaugh turns this organization around with wins and a return to tradition. More importantly, I hope we never see another head coach like Singletary OR Nolan again.

Answering the question, the answer is easy, SINGLETARY was worse, simply put he knows nothing about coaching x's and o's.
Nolan was terrible, but the biggest mistake the team made with him was giving him power to make personnel decisions.
