There always seem to be one or two pro bowlers a year in free agency and of course we drool over them, who wouldn't? This year Asomugha is a free agent and that man is a top two corner in the league and I definately think we should make a run at him, BUT championship teams are not build that way. I think just as important as these type of guys, are bringing in players that have had success in this league. Maybe not big time pro bowlers but guys that have been part of winning teams, guys that know what it takes to win in crucial moments. We lack that type of mentorship in our players. There are some good leaders on this team like Clements and Vernon Davis, and some hard players like Gore and such but none of these guys have been in winning programs in the NFL. The majority of our team is full of guys that have never played a playoff game in their career. It shows win we can never win when we have too. Think of 2009 when we needed late season wins against the Eagles and the Seahawks and we played terrible both games. 2010 when all we had to do was beat the rams, a team that we were uch more talented then. Think of all the games that we should have won the last couple of seasons, the colts, the vikings, the falcons, etc... and could coaching have played a part...sure. However, you still need guys that know how to close a close game out like the Atlanta game this past season and we do not have that. Point is, I would like to see us bring in a core group mid or low priced guys that have been in winning culture while we draft our young generation of players to mold. This has worked well for the Patriots over the years, why not us.

The key to this, or any other, teams success is to get the best players and coaches we can get and them put them in an ideal position to have success.

Disagree.....all we needed is a qb and all and i mean ALL those close games would be ours. And we DO NEED TO GET NMANDI he shuts down any wr and our secondary was avg against the pass. Its not about getting players from winning cultures....look at how bad players do from a winning team to a losing one with no talent....see warner to the nyg from the rams....a good player is a good player when surrounded by talent. Gore and vd are among the best at their positions and are a lot better than good players from winning cultures....they are better they are great players on a team with no qb and ol.
All the niners need is a great cb above avg qb and maybe a pass rusher and we are set.

I'm not exactly seeing what your talking about here. I post an perspective about attaining good solid roleplayers from winning cultures and you send me a link to an Asomugha thread just because I brielfy mentioned him. He wasn't even the main focus of my thread.
The noob thing was funny though, I guess I just don't have as much time on my hands for forum chat as you do.

Niners draft cb peterson/Amukamara and be able to land Asomugha. Be able to pry Vick or Kolb away from eagles w/ out giving too much... You got a nice fantasy nfc west champ 2011. Fa'Sho!
But realistically draft one of the top 2 CBs.... get a FA QB that has low turnover ratio. Draft Pass Rusher Specialist i.e. casey matthews(hope he gets it done like Clay). Get another DL that can push the pocket better than Sopoaga and get Mays your specialty project on D.
Offense just has to execute and we'll be sure lock for play offs at 9-7. =)
