First off, I'm not an Alex Smith supporter or basher, but watching last Sunday night's Packers-Patriots game was yet another example of Alex Smith's lack of QB skills. (and yes, I realize Troy Smith is now the "starter")
Matt Flynn, making his first start IN NEW ENGLAND, had a better game and looked more comfortable than perhaps Alex Smith ever has. Yes, Green Bay has more talented WRs (and coach/offensive coordinator), but one can argue the Niners have had the edge in TE and RB, with the O-line more or less being a push.
Even if we throw out Flynn's stats (which were impressive), he showed better poise, awareness, and overall feel for the game. In his first career start. Hell, even Colt McCoy has shown more during his brief career (and without a doubt Sam Bradford has WITHOUT ANY receiving threats).
So I ask an innocent and straightforward question to you Alex Smith backers: what has he exactly shown you over the past 6 years that makes you believe?
Without turning this into a heated debate, I'm really just curious. Intelligent responses are encouraged.
