"The most important thing for me coming into this season is to make sure I gave Alex every opportunity that I possibly could to succeed -- did not impede that in any way," Singletary said. "And it's worked out the way it worked out. You could say, 'Yes, disappointed.' You could say a lot of different things. But the bottom line is, it is what it is right now."

Wow That is a pretty straight forward statement by a Head Coach. Alex is definitely not coming back, whether it's because we don't want him or just because he doesn't want to come back but either way, I think SD was his last game in a 49ers uniform UNLESS Troy can't move the offense this Sunday.

Singletary being a desperate man at this point, if Troy struggles (hopefully he doesn't ) Singletary will have no choice but to make a QB change in one last effort to win that game. If we lose AND Troy struggles, I expect to see Nate called up for that week 17 game. There is no point in running Alex back out there with nothing on the line. This is one relationship that I personally can't wait to see split apart. For both, his and our sake
So in the biggest game of the season, with the team's playoffs hopes hanging in the balance, the head coach asks his OC to tailor a game plan to fit both QBs "just in case."

You know, because the OC doesn't have enough to deal with in coming up with a winning game plan for even ONE of these freakin' QBs, especially for a divisional opponent who's already played us once...no, let's use this absolutely crucial game to do a little EXPERIMENTING!

You f**king idiot.

I don't disagree with the move. Expect Troy Smith to have a very short leash. This essentially is our Super Bowl.

Seriously? And you think a guy is going to feel confident in making tough throws as needed, if he knows he's going to get pulled if he makes a mistake? No matter how mentally tough you are, it's impossible not to play tentatively if you know "the hook" is only a mistake or two away.

I mean, let's get real...EVERY QB makes mistakes. From Brady, to Manning to Montana to Namath. Hell, every PLAYER on the field makes mistakes here and there. That's just a part of the game, but you play through it and learn to overcome those mistakes. You don't yank a guy and put in his backup (unless he's playing like dog s**t, then all bets are off of course)...that's not how you handle the most critical role on your football team.

I real coach, hell, I real man, will have the balls to say, "I'm going with so-and-so, and we'll coach him up and he'll be ready to kick ass come Sunday. If he loses, it's on me and I'll pay the price. But I'm the coach, and this is my guy (whomever it may be) and I believe in him, come what may."

To me, this is a clever-by-half, chicken-s**t move by Sing, and I'll be glad when his sorry ass is out of here.

'You don't yank a guy and put in his backup'

TOTALLY disagree with that statement right there. We all want singletary gone, yes. However, this is the only move i agree with. Alex has had enough chances to have bad games. In 6 years he never has ONCE carried the team on his back and got us a win when the defense was doing bad. Not ONCE. Troy Smith got us 4 of our 5 wins, and showed so much potential and explosiveness that Alex Smith has never shown me.

This is coming from an old Alex Smith 'fan' btw.

I'm an old Alex fan too but I'm past moving on...Maybe my old Alex defending is lingering but I've since the st. louis I've yet to see anything from troy smith that i could account as potential or explosiveness but I have seen Alex manage a damn good game vs seattle

In my eyes the only thing more frustrating than watching alex take sacks and throw the ball away is watching troy smith seemingly play with his eyes closed flinging the ball everywhere (with no touch on short passes) and seeing him get caught from behind by 300 pound lineman when he's decided to scramble for yards...I really think he's the slowest QB on the roster and i grew to hate watching him play even more than Alex

This makes sense to Sing because he doesn't see the QB position as anything more than 1/11th of the offense.
