Exactly, but our oh-so-clever coach always has a backup plan...

His reason for the switch?

Cause we beat the Rams last time with Troy

Hate to burst your bubble.

Yorks Stay = Sing Stay

Sing Stay = Alex Stay

This is absolutely hilarious. We are the laughing stock of the NFL. I just don't understand Sing's logic.

Alex came back because he "knew the entire playbook." He comes back..does pretty well...then was ineffective against San Diego (which was, by all accounts, expected). I don't think Troy would have had a better game. Maybe more shots down field, but whether you lose by 24 or 4...we still lose.

Now we are entering, arguably the MOST important game in the last 8 years...and we go...BACK to Troy Smith..who Sing originally benched because: "We need to beat Seattle ('most important game' at that time) and Troy doesn't know the play book..." and.."It's just not fair to Troy..etc."

Look, I have nothing against Troy Smith. I fully supported benching Alex and starting Troy earlier on. But in this case...I think this is kind of a hypocritical d1ckhead move. I don't think Alex did anything to necessarily DESERVE to be benched. Against PHI...yes..absolutely. Against ATL...yes. But why now? Obviously it isn't because "Troy gives us the best chance" because he would have said that.

Again...this has nothing to do with Alex or Troy or David or Nate. This situation as a whole...is just ridiculous and laughable.

Anyway...go Troy....go 49ers. Good luck and god speed. You'll need it with Sing as your Coach.

Cosigned. Sing's gone full retard, and you never go full retard.

I thought going from Alex to Troy was "horrific"?!?

Stupid bulls**t, fire singletary this year

At this point, Singletary is doing his best to not get a legitimate job next year.

Troy Smith who is two weeks removed as a starter, when Alex is 4-1 against the Rams.

He also hasn't won a road game all year.

Alex that is.

Who would you rather start? The QB who hasn't won a single road game this season or the QB who is responsible for 100% of our road success this year.

Seems like a pretty simple equation to me.

And he had only won 1 road game last year. In fact his career record is something like 6-21 while on the road...
I like the move, because we still have much to learn about Troy Smith, he could actually be a good QB. If Alex would've started, it really wouldn't have mattered no matter what he did, because he is gone after this year, and we have nothing to really learn about Alex at this point.

Although it doesn't change the fact that Singletary and this revolving door at QB are completely rediculous.

Meanwhile, Johnson pulled off an even better Sgt. Schultz routine than Singletary did a day earlier. Asked about his quarterback starter, Johnson, perhaps unaware that Singletary said Tuesday that he has already informed the quarterbacks of his decision, said that decision hasn't been finalized. "We're still trying to figure that out," he said. "... I've been told to practice both guys and make sure both guys get reps."

I mean seriously, Mike Singletary's IQ must be under 100. He isn't fit to do anything remotely resembling coaching.
Makes perfect sense if Sing is trying to save his sorry a**.

He's gonna walk into Jed's office at the end of the season and say Alex held the team back and he found his qb in Troy and just needs a whole year to develope him.

No other explanation is workable. Troy still hasn't learned the playbook, the Rams now have tape on Troy and his weaknesses, Alex has always played the Rams well and Alex was not the reason we lost last week.

Could be wrong but I see no rational explanation for this move and I really can't believe this is the 49er's.
This is just all around pathetic. No wonder people have been walking away from this organization fast.

T. Smith vs. GB
A.Smith vs. SEA
A.Smith vs. SD
T.Smith vs. STL

That is one nasty Smith sandwich.

We lost about 6 players or coaches who quit or were fired for incompetence...

Cheers to you Scotty M. I'd be an alcoholic too if i worked for this guy:

It's crazy how in one year, almost everyone who loved Singletary has just gone to despise him.

that happens when you play musical quarterbacks

or when you have 3 phrases you mutter in post-game interviews.

He brought discipline and respect to the team, only to lose it with poor game management, game planning, personnel decisions.

Even the media thought he was doing good job, which he was, considering what he inherited. But instead of getting better, we have regressed at an alarming rate. Sing got to comfertable with his method and didn't put in the extra work he needed to. He isn't the brightest guy in the shed. He should be hitting the books all night.

Now we are left with a coach who lost his team and led us to the s**tty realm on the NFC west contenders. Even if we do make the playoffs, Sing is gone.
