What gives? In general it doesn't seem the zone is as pumped up about Troy Smith as I am. Do people think he is just a flash in the pan and will regress when defensive coordinators get more film on him? I actually think some people are bummed because he should dump Alex Smith down to second string. I know it is only one game, and many back ups only shine in back up roles, and don't make good starters.
What is it, I thought this place would be rocking after Sunday's game. I know the season is shot, but maybe Troy gives us something to look forward to for the rest of the season.

you haven't noticed that Troy Smith has been the only topic of conversation in here since yesterday?

With the gameplan the way it was(how many times did he hand the ball off?) and the playbook very limited, can you really get that excited? Personally, I can't. But we'll see what happens next week since I think he'll get at least 1 more start.

True, but I see a lot of people, making excuses why he did good, like it was all luck and not be repeated.

I'll be excited when, at halftime (of a game in the future) we have 20 yards rushing, and troy is forced to put the team on his back and WIN the game for us.
I'd like someone other than Gore (on offense) to win a game for us.

I am excited about him. In spite of his limited knowledge of the offense, shaky play calling he seems to have a presence about him. He has been on the big stage before and can only get better as he works with the receivers more. Alex was 1-6 and cost us at least 3 games. I agree that Troys throw to Delanie had some luck associated with it but he made a play. He appears to have some touch on the ball and I am excited to see him the rest of the season.

Troy has the arm, and the "swag" we have not seen in a long long time.
Who knows what he will bring us, but I am one of the enthusiastic ones!

~ It was 1 game.
~ Against a horrific team.
~ Against a team with a lot of injuries.
~ His one really big play was a wing and and a prayer hail marry. It was a floater, it was late and into double coverage. It should be picked all day. But somehow he was lucky as hell. And it fell through to Delanie. That same pass will be picked 9 out of 10 games.

i think a lot of people are being--quite reasonably--cautiously optimistic. The season is shot, no reason to get overly excited. We've been here before with JTO and Hill. Guys who come in and make some plays and win a game or a few games and then hit their ceiling or flame out and we're back to where we started. Let's wait a few games and then get enthusiastic, or not.
Besides, the biggest change that needs to happen is Singletary needs to be gone. Any great player that emerges between now and then is kind of like sprinkles on dog poop. Its still gonna be dog poop until it decomposes or something. So, really, until we have a legit coaching staff/front office, I, for one, don't see any reason to have wild emotional swings concerning this team.
I hope Troy does well, but, you know, like, whatever.

Because this is the same "hope" that people had about Shaun Hill, Pickett, JTO, and yes even the other Smith. Same "hopeful" feeling the last few off seasons.
It was all false hope and over rated hype. Why will Troy Smith be any different? Honestly. I think had Alex not been injured we would have beat Carolina, Denver and went into the bye 3-5. But in the end it doesn't really matter. He's still not that good and at the end of the day...we still need a new QB. Same with Troy Smith...we handed the ball off 35+ times and yes he made plays when he needed to (like most back ups do) ...but it doesn't change the fact that we have a serious need at GM, head coach, QB, and a litany of other areas.
So yeah..it's hard to get "pumped" up about the this win. I mean it's nice and it's a cool story in a "Rudy" kinda way. I'm rooting for Troy the same way I'd root for any 3rd stringer who never gets a chance and works hard. But beyond that...it's hard to get excited about this team.
But hey...I could be wrong and Troy Smith could be our savior and the next Favre-Flutie-hero type player. That'd be awesome for sure.
Go 49ers.

We will take it one game by game.
He is essentially auditioning for the starting job next year. More power too him. I still want to pick a QB 1st round above CB just because the Niners need a franchise QB to become a powerhouse team that competes for championships, not for draft order. But if he can miraculously bring us back to the playoffs, then he'd be an MVP candidate.
