Did you not see David Carr play last Sunday? Happy that he is not in there and might as well see what we got in Troy Smith

We have nothing in troy smith. Baltimore didn't even want him as a third stringer. He may be an upgrade over carr, but to say let's see what we have in him is just being too hopeful that he actually has a shot at being our quarterback of the future. He iis what he is, the only healthy quarterback on the roster that gives us the best chance to win. That's all.

He was the starter for ravens then he got sick and flacco started. He refused to be a back up that's why they relesed him

Whaaaat! Seriously? Well if he's being like that then he better have something to show for it. Refuse to be backup, thats a good one.

They cut his ass after they signed Marc Bulger. He had just resigned with them to be their back up
Troy Smith getting cut by Baltimore is explained by Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome

“The competition to make our team was very heated, and we decided to keep a position player rather than a third quarterback,” Newsome said. “We have a number of young guys who made our team who have tremendous upside, plus they can help us win this year. We’ve gone with two quarterbacks before.”

Again Troy Smith is not our savior but lets see what we got in him. IF he fails then we move on to the ratard

Not like we have much choice. I for one am gonna keep an open mind, and hope that he can have a good game to help our Niners win.
Just as I (and I think all of us) should do with any 49er player on the field.

He is only 26 years old, I thought he was older for some reason

We now know the end is near for coach Sing. We were all lead to believe that the backup QB was someone that filled in for the starter; but not on this team. We seem to mess it up as usual. I thought that the best players were suppose to be on the 53 man roster again, not on this team. This team makes some very strange decisions. I am in agreement that Troy Smith may be the best alternative at this time. However, why in the world did we sign Carr? If coach Sing can't even trust him to play a game in Alex's place then at this point he is useless on the active roster. We are 1-6 and going nowhere. Release Carr, it's that simple and promote Nate for the time being until Alex comes back. A total waste of roster spot.

This whole post is a contradiction. You agree with the move but you don't agree with the move because of what you think should normally happen?/

They gave up on Carr too quickly.

He got one one half and Alex got 5.5 years.......

Hopefully, Troy gets the Alex Smith experiment.

God, I can't wait till Aloser is cut.
Guess they will see what Troy has got in the tank....and just how long a contract did Carr sign.?

FINALLY - somone knows what happened in Baltimore, geez.....Thanks man for clearing the "he couldn't even be the 3rd string in Baltimore talk"

Watch this kid ball.....

If Troy Smith was the savior in Baltimore, then why did they feel the need to draft Flacco???

Actually he wasn't the starter, he was going to get a chance to win the job. He was scheduled to start the 3rd preseason game and earn the opportunity during Flacco's rookie year based off of the few flashes he showed when pressed into action during his own rookie year the year prior. The Ravens were at the point where they knew Boller wasn't the answer but did not want to press Flacco into action as a rookie. Troy came down with tonsillitis, Flacco started and was impressive. The Ravens and Flacco never looked back.

Baltimore drafted because they did not know whether Smith was the future or not, but passing on a chance to draft a kid they were high on whom was a 1st round talent could have been a mistake for them. The smart move would not be to put all your chips on a 5th round pick as your future after 2 and a half games of game film to go on from his rookie year.

Hey, I'm more excited about watching Troy Smith than David Carr. I don't know if he'll do any better, but Carr looked terrible and at least Troy is an unknown. Actually makes me look forward to the game... he's a player on the team I've never seen play.

Plus, I'm a sucker for a good story line. The Ginn connection is interesting. How often does that happen? QB and WR who played together in college getting a chance to be on the same field during the regular season? Anybody know?
I'm happy that we finally have a mobile QB considering JTO and Hill showed more mobility than Smith.

they were even High School teammates!

"He graduated from Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio where he was coached by Ted Ginn, Sr., father of his Ohio State and high school teammate Ted Ginn, Jr."
