It's a good interview. Too bad so few people took the time to actually listen to it. Steve Young's perspective on this issue is interesting for a whole bunch of reasons: He's a HOF quarterback who struggled on bad teams early in his career. He's a fan of the current 49ers, and he knows Alex personally. Here's a verbatim quote from the interview:

"I really do hope, and believe, that he has the ability to really go the distance. And it's a fun story. Because there are late bloomers. There are guys that have to go through... not everything is smooth sailing. So if he does do it, and he becomes an All Pro player... and he becomes a perennial All Pro player, we'll all forget... how much struggle there really was."

Steve didn't say that Alex will succeed. He said we'll find out this year... that we'll be able to make "hard judgments" this year. But he said that Alex has the capacity to get there (unlike Leinart), and that he's pulling for him.

seattle arizona he woulve against texans if ST didnt fumble the ball, he wouldve against seattle again if gore didnt fumble or VD didnt drop the ball in the endzone or if the D didnt allow a last second field goal he came back against GB last year but the D screwed that up as well
