Overall, Baalke had a great draft. The two positions that weren't addressed were NT and CB. We need to lock down Franklin or trade for Haynesworth (who of course doesn't want to be a NT).

Before the draft, I wanted to pick up a NT to groom behind Franklin and give us leverage, but the draft didn't fall that way. Now the Niners must lock him down because there really isn't an alternative right now on our team.
Or trade for Haynesworth

F Haynesworth man! I agree sign Franklin yesterday the guy is a beast and all our star defenders Willis/Smith/Spikes etc love him. I hope he's not asking for insane $$ the reason he's not signed yet is most likely # of years on the contract I suspect we want to give maybe a 4 year deal and he wants 5-6 just guessing.

I tend to agree here but let's not overpay for the guy.

i understand and agree with the sentiment...
but let's not pretend that any of us understand what goes into contract negotiations when there is the very real possibility of a labor dispute next season. i'm sure it's a pretty complicated process and with the one exception of j.smiley, we've done a very good job with handling contract situations to this point. paraag deserves the benefit of teh doubt IMO.

I like Franklin, but he's around 30 years old and I'm always skeptical of players who really turn it on in contract years. Ever see Bryant Young do that?

Haynesworth contract would only run around 5 mill a year IIRC

I like that they didn't overpay immediately. Let him prove it another year.

Thats whats scary. Franklin's only played well for 1 season, but we have no other alternatives if he gets injured or takes the 7mil and leaves

Great physical tools and questionable work ethic (seems to fit the mold to me). Sing definitely doesn't play by the biting-more-off-than-he-can-chew idea.
