If you're going to get a CB/Special Teamer, why didnt we go after sydquan thompson from cal?

i agree Syd was potential 3rd-4th round prospect & this guy could of been available via free agency
now looks like Donkey's probably came up on a steal
what's the point of local pro day if the niners dont get a guy like this???
our draft grade went from a A- to a B with this selection
wouldnt be surprise to see this guy cut or just a body on the practice squad when camp ends

Syd is big and slow. The Niners don't need a guy like that at CB.
And to say that a draft score goes down a whole grade due to a 7th round pick is sort of silly. Most 7th round picks are lucky if they are the team that drafted them by year 2.

Quote:
There may have been 15 South Carolina State prospects at the school’s pro day workout on March 31, but the scouts on hand from 15 NFL teams were all there to see Phillip Adams.
The 5-foot, 10-inch, 192-pound cornerback ran a 4.53-second and 4.52-second 40-yard-dash, had a 34.5-inch vertical leap, 10-4 broad jump, 4.35-second short shuttle, a 7.17-second three-cone drill and participated in position drills.

You're half right. He's actually small and slow. no thanks. Only a homer would lower their opinion of our draft.

well this guy went to a small school never covered top receivers & his 40 wasnt so impressive either a 4.52 is not quite something to get excited about

Where did u get that he runs 4.52? He wasn't at the combine and Kezar's link shows he ran 4.4 at his pro-day.

So many of the top prospects spend a couple of months with training firms to help prepare them for the combine. How much does it help lower their 40 times and other skills? I do not know. But I would be willing to bet that Adams did not attend one. Think about it: If such training would have lowered his 40 by .03 seconds, he would have been timed at 4.49. Looks better doesn't it?

At 5-foot-11, 192 pounds, he's solidly built and not afraid to tackle. He's also shown a strong instinct for the ball, with 11 interceptions in four years, two of those returned for touchdowns.
After the season, he was invited to play in a pair of postseason all-star games, the HBCU Senior Bowl and the Texas vs. The Nation game.
There, he impressed NFL scouts with his ability to play press coverage, one of the biggest demands when any college player moves up a level.
"He's a good player," said one NFC scout. "Really tough kid, good speed, he's got a chance to be a nice pickup for someone late in the draft."

Balanced corner, likely to be only a practice-squader or special teamer. Strength is in run support. Not afraid to come up and pop people.
Did have some big plays last year (1 pick six, 1 fumble recovery for a TD).
Bump-and-run corner mainly. Not that great when the receiver can quickly undercut. Might get burned on flag and "stop and go" routes.
