I can definitely see a top 5 defense forming.

13 Tackles, 11 solo
2 pass defensed

I think he's going to have his best year so far. He has enough experience now that he should have about ZERO weakness in his game this year. That's going to be big. Maybe scary big.
Something else...I think KB is going to factor in this year. We won't see it in his stats, but I think we are going to end up seeing it in Smith's, Haralson's, Lawson's and Willis's.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he was the one who made it possible for Smith to make that game ending sack. That was a beautiful play, Smith and KB pulled that off in textbook fashion. I haven't watched the game in replay yet, so I could be wrong.

A few things I really about our D today:
PASS RUSH! (oh how I missed you!)
Haralson looking like a beast
Ray McDonald getting a lot of playing time, and bringing a lot of heat. I've really like this guy for a while and was hoping to see more of him.
Bly as a nickleback. I think this might be his best role. He's not as dependable one on one against elite WRs, but as a 5th DB his gambling style really fits. I could see him getting a few INTs this year, even without starting.
Willis. Ok, this is obvious, but man that guy is amazing.

not only our D making stops and maintaining good field position....but how about Andy Lee booming it from our own endzone for what seemed like 70 yards???
who's with me? Andy Lee is the man!

The D' most def' kept us in the game. They were phenominal. Great Victory for the NINERS. I was at the game and our D shut the crowd up so bad that at the 3rd quarter some fans just left and a couple more was cussing mad.Our D' showed up. The 3rd quarter was scary but we pulled it out.

nicely surprised by our coverage our and pressure on Warner (who is a quick releaser don't forget)
but don't put haralson on pass coverage : the guy has not enough speed !
He doesn't have speed, but I think you are referring to one specific play when the defense was defending after the offense's 3rd 3n'out.
They were really tired by that time.
Haralson looked gassed on that play, and the RB was able to get around the corner on him.
But when the defense was rested, Haralson was just fine in coverage.
i think it was just a bad matchup, hightower has some wheels. he out ran willis' tackles once

Defense rocked plain and simple. they excelled in all phases. they put pressure on the passer, stopped the run, limited the pass attack, forced turnovers, did not commit excessive penalties, and did not make many mistakes. Manusky had dem boys ready 2day

I mean wow, you got to give a lot of credit to him for shutting down any deep oppurtunities the QB might have been looking for. I didnt see any deep throws except for that 40 yarder. What tells me he did some work out there is that Kurt constantly had to buy time and hardly even threw anywhere near him. We havent seen that for years!

He was in part responsible for Nate giving up the long bomb to Urban. If he was slow in his coverage that could've been prevented. But other than that he was better than Roman for sure

Well, the entire defense played great and not giving up the long bombs had a lot to do with our defense constantly getting good pressure on Warner (except during the 3rd quarter, where they promptly started to get bigger gains), but for me something else was important in this game:
There was no play where he screwed up so bad that the Cardinals could score
Remember, this was his first game as a starter. And he did not play that much before, as he was dinged up during extend parts of the past few seasons. So he lacks playing experience, which could lead to some mistakes and screw-ups.
However, the problem with a Safety screwing up is that usually there is no one left behind him to bail him out. So I was worried a bit that Goldson may make a few mistakes and that one of those mistakes may give a big scoring play.
But as I see it, he was steady, did his job most of the time and he did not have a big meltdown play that directly lead to points (I still have nightmares regarding that Dolphins touchdown Mark Roman gave up....). Which means he had an encouraging start and I hope he will show us his ball-hawking skills in a game soon, preferably with an interception or two against Seattle next week
