maybe Bly can start over Clements...
but seriously, wasn't the competition between Brown and bly all summer? I haven't heard Spencer's name in months. I have nothing against him necessarily but I can't really imagine he remains the starter all season, either.

what if brown is third string? lol bly will be pissed. I thought bly played well except for him getting the wind knocked out of him every five seconds
Relax -- this is actually GREAT news. Spencer looked like a very solid 2nd corner a few years ago, tore a knee ligament, and is just now back in shape.
Also, read the article about the effect the time off had on his attitude about football.
He has experience, is big, and we know he can play.
Now, we have three very good corners to play nickle/dime or back up.
This is great!

Well, Bly and T Brown played well but got beat out by Spencer. ok I accept that.
So, how has no one beat out Clements for the other side if he played the worse out of all of them? lol
oh and one more thing
WOOOHOO SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT BESIDES CRABTREE!!! YES!

How do you know this is great. Just because the niners said so. Spencer has been burned over and over. I dont ever remember him making any big plays.

it's great news if Spencer really earned the job and is the better player. It's just hard for me to believe that he's done something to win the job after the focus has been on Brown and Bly all along. If Spencer had been outplaying them wouldn't we have noticed during games, wouldn't there have been some indications during the preseason? this is just kind of strange.

what's a "Crabtree"? I have no idea what such a thing is, or what it has to do with the Niners.

Oh my dictionary says a "crabtree" is a pile of stinky s**t that needs money or it will die

Shocked. I thought Bly was a lock. I never really thought Spencer was in the mix, but hey if he really is the starter than that just means we have stud nickel and dime backs in Bly and Brown.
Without a pass rush we are going to need a strong performance from our DBs. Let's hope they are up to the task.

but I think he will be the nickel CB with Bly starting...which I have no problem with.
I don't think Brown is ready yet....but I do love our depth at CB.... having Brown and Hudson behind Spencer, Bly, Nate.
oh Afrikan......they call you names for thinking so differently sometimes.
but seriously, hopefully Spencer is back to that form he was in before that contract extension....
but to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if he got the gig because of his run stopping/tackling.... ability on top of being a good cover corner.
with Spencer and Nate.....we will have few miss tackles on RBs and WRs on the outside.

That's because McCloughan is trying to justify signing him to that hugely over-priced contract Clements got in FA. If Clements becomes a liability and giving up TDs, they should restructure his contract like they did A. Smith's contract or trade him if he refuses. For that much dough, he should live up to the expectations or voluntarily give the Niners half the money back for failing.

Over who? Only one of our pre-season starting CBs keeps getting torched.
