Only reason Alex is still around is because he was drafted by the current GM and was resigned by the current GM. If we had a new GM Alex would have been a toast this offseason. Alex is not kept around for his on field talent. Only reason he is still with the niners is because the GM does not want to look like a fool to the ownership and fan base.

This is not the truth. Everyone knows that Nolan's first year he was both GM and headcoach. Nolan drafted Alex Smith. Scot was head of player personel at that time if i recall. Scot is not totally innocent, he was also part of the decision, but make no doubts about it; Nolan drafted Smith.

I agree that alex should have been the one that got cut. I have always supported anyone who was the qb of our team but his time has come. He has never proved himself. Even his best year was less that average. Maybe people are right that all he needs is to be in the same system for more than a year. But in the nfl nothing is a given. If alex wasn't a former first pick for this club he would have already been cut.
