As logical as that sounds, I don't see any evidence of it. Chilo appeared to make NO progress. However, Sing/Raye appeared to make no effort to adjust schemes or play sequencing to help Rachal, and the rest of the OL, to perform better. It was just macho man, in your face football and it failed miserably.

Not sure that the lack of coaching was the major issue for Chilo when he was struggling, especially that first year. Then Singletary brought in Solari early last year so it seems Singletary had the right idea about having good coaches for the offensive line. If you are saying Singletary's football philosophy was a hinderance, then I would agree since I think it hindered our offense as a whole. I think Chilo and the whole offense is in a good place right now coaching wise. Harbaugh as a former qb, I think he would know exactly what he wants out of his offensive line, whether run blocking or pas protection, since he played behind them his whole career. Probably don't get that from Singletary.

From all we heard, it is reasonable to assume that he had a lot on his mind other than football that first year: left college early to support an ailing mother, VERY young, etc. Where he truly fell short of expectations was last season, and I put a great deal of that on coaching, play design/sequencing, etc., etc. Hence it is good to see him have a very good game. Now if he can do that against Houston, we can have some hope he has turned the corner. It would be great to have 3 solid guards on the roster. You can't build a team if someone goes down and you do not have quality behind them.

It may be that since the area that was emphasized as the key to losing to the Saints is now again the focal point, this group and the blocking scheme in general might remain the most analyzed aspect of the team this season. Although run blocking could be a their strength, their lack of overall success would most likely result in an ineffective passing game. In retrospect, this may be part of the rationale behind why a scrambling and improvisational quarterback like Troy Smith was intermittently more effective and an older free agent quarterback like Matt Hasselbeck chose the Titans over the the 49ers.

we are only set at one position and thats lg. staley is a below avg lt and should move to the right side. at center we have a battle and a former vet probowler cant even beat out a guy playing the position for the first time. at rg we have rachal, nough said. at rt davis hasnt shown anything that remotely resembles a top draft choice. we are is serious trouble folks if we roll out a line with these guys.

Reading all over the place that our coaches chastised/lectured the entire o-line today, that's really a new one. -In fact, gave them a straight and narrow 'ass-ripping'.

-Countless years since Bobb McKittrick; our o-line has never, ever been given a swift kick in the ass (holding any accountability because of how much they've f**king sucked).

It's like nobody ever wanted to let the elephant out of the room; when somebody was doing bad on the line (specially under Nolan & Sing), GOD FORBID WE BLAMED THE O-LINE FOR SUCKING, when we could just conveniently blame whichever 'average' QB we've put behind it over the years.

I am so disappointed I don't even want to watch the 49ers at all anymore. I can't stand watching the O-line suck major balls every single week. For how long are we going to have the worst O-line in the league? We spent two top picks last year on O-line and it looks like it was a major mistake! Sheesh this team... sad and pathetic!

plenty of quality should be getting cut by sept 3rd. im pretty sure we will be adding some veteran pieces to this oline.

I hope that emotion translates to better play on the field. I really want Goodwin to step up and take over that job. Its ridiculous that he can't unseat Snyder.

Emotional/Tension-filled = screaming and yelling. I imagine there was a lot of that. I wonder if certain players are calling each other out. Or if something like this happened:

Coach: Joe, you need to do your job, what happened here?
Staley: I was trying to help Iupati out because I saw a guy coming from the inside.
Iupati: I thought that was your guy?
Goodwin: No you were trying to block my guy.
Coach: Stick to your assignment, and let the QB step up or scramble if he needs to!!! One defender is easier to avoid than two!!!

Coach: " Shut up! None of you are playing like you should be starters."

The vicious cycle continues.

Well, at least Harbaugh didn't force the players back to Santa Clara that night for a team meeting. Singletary would have.

Couldn't agree more! That oline needs some balls and an attitude adjustment. I want to see some fire out there if either of our qb's are getting hammered.

Also would like Alex to get some fire in his belly and get on these guys if assignments are missed or he's getting hammered without time to make any progressions.

On KNBR Rod Brooks was making excuses for the O-Line. He said that they are working on their Seattle game plan in practice and don't give a crap about the preseason games. So how come the other O-lines are prepping too but they go out and make an above average showing?

i was watching the replay and it should be noted that a. davis did a great job going against mario williams and company last game. he played a very solid game and played williams 1 on 1.

Yeah that's total BS. If they "didn't care" then why would Staley be so visibly pissed. There is something seriously wrong with the OL.

Joe Staley may be the most gregarious, loose, fun-loving guy on the 49ers. (Anthony Dixongives him a run for his money). Walk into the locker room on any given day, and you're likely to find Staley singing a Billy Joel song at the top of his lungs and urging his teammates to join in.

Today Staley was in a different mood. His arms were alternately folded tightly across his chest or he was tapping the side of his leg in annoyance. He said he couldn't wait to hit the practice field this afternoon.

"We watched the film this morning and we're very disgusted with what we saw on the offensive line," he said of the offensive line's performance against Houston Saturday. "And our coach challenged us, and we challenged ourselves (to) come out and have a really great week of practice and a really great game. We've got to get going. The season's upon us. We've got to play a lot better than that."

Staley acknowledged that he didn't do much film work on Connor Barwin, his scourge Saturday, but he didn't want that as an excuse. "Just got beat," Staley said. "Got to get better. I got beat. I'm not going to give you any excuses. I played terrible."
