I am impressed with this kid. He has met his demons face-to-face, accepted them for what they are, and is succeeding early in his sobriety. Heck, I am sure that he's battling those demons every time he hears of a party which is hard for any 22 year old let alone an alcoholic.
I love this about Boone: "Scot McCloughan, the 49ers' general manager, is also in on the project. He has asked Boone to stay in Santa Clara all summer, even when OTAs are not in session. That will allow the team to more closely monitor him. Boone has agreed, except for a trip to Ohio for his brother's wedding. Other than that, the hotel room is Boone's hangout every night. Which, as he readily admits, is not the most fun life in the free world." Article by Mike Purdy
That's how you do it. Set yourself up for success rather than failure!
I have many a friend who have been overwhelmed by their demons to the point it cost them their lives with one of my closest dying from "bleeding out" due to alcoholism which of course is the extreme.
Everyone has a story as do I. I am just glad I am still here to tell it. Thank you Lord!
May God bless you and keep you safe from your demons, Mr. Boone.
Good luck!!!!

Scott McCloughan must have high hopes for this kid. First time I ever heard of a GM asking a player or undrafted rookie free agent to stay close to home so we can keep on eye on you.

With his history Alex should be attending AA meetings daily, getting a sponsor, surrounding himself with clean and sober people, working his steps and educating himself about his disease. I sure hope some of that is going on too. Isolation is not the answer.
I also hope that there is personnel in the Niner organization who have knowledge about substance abuse and who can guide him.
I'm rooting for Alex also.

The guy must be talented. To eff up the way he did and still start for a big college program, you have to have some talent.
...and he better shape up....if he wants some kind of paycheck. He slips up once and no team will trust him!!!!!
I agree....i do not want to see Barry Sims come week 1!!!!

Bottom Line: Lets all pull for Boone to make our 53 man roster because than we finally say goodbye to Barry Sims .
Plus I would rather the 9ers keep a big young guy in Boone who has clear upside versus a old guy like Sims who is cooked, over , done.
