Is Battle really worth a roster spot at this point?

And yes cut Simms, cut Keasey.

Yes definitely Keasy and Simms and sadly Battle. I like Battle he has worked his ass off on some pretty crappy teams, dude deserves better, but this pro football a serious business.

Battle if cut will play elsewhere, he is a fierce downfield blocker and is a consummate pro, he is a go to guy on third downs who seems to know where the sticks are, all that said I think we do have better talent on this roster so it is nothing personal it is all about the business of winning, I will miss Battle especially on 3rd downs!

Battle was only clutch on 3rd downs for one season. Why? Because of Antonio Bryant's presence. We need to stop acting like Battle was always big on 3rd downs because that simply is not true. Also, people need to stop acting like he has hands of glue because they read he didn't drop a pass in 06. So what? On most of the passes he caught he was open because of the double coverage and extra attention given to Antonio Bryant (after the first 2 games teams were afraid of him as a deep threat) so he had no business dropping any. Let's not forget the very next season Battle was competing with D-Drop for the most drops on the team.

Not only that bro but what got is it if Battle is considered clutch on 3rd downs if he is always hurt. He has done good for us but our Wr core is better than our years past and someone has to go right.

dont think that works either dude. davis isnt getting cut, delanie is pretty damn good and pascoe is impressing too. if they keep 6 he may have a shot. crabs, morgan, hill, bruce and jones are probably what our WR corps is gonna look like.

That is a nice WR core don't you think. Crabtree, Morgan, Hill, Bruce and Jones. That is a sexy WR core in my opinion.

I agree with the OP. Battle did a lot of good stuff for us over the years, but his time is done here. It happens to everyone sooner or later.

Bruce, Morgan, Crabtree, Jones and Hill with Ziegler, Spurlock and others fighting for the possible 6th spot on the depth chart (or back on to the PS).
I don't want to post something negative about Sullivan needing room to develop his next pro bowler.

I think you're vastly overrating Bryant. He did NOTHING outside of the first few games. He did not strike fear into opposing defenses. He could stretch the field but he's no Randy Moss. He had two great games to start the season. Then defenses got tape and adjusted.

It may not seem like it to you, but to the majority of the fanbase, on 3rd down, you could see that Battle was Alex's go to guy. Battle came through more often than not.

PR Specialist? WHAT!? If you mean he can field a punt, I'll give you that. But a specialist? NO. Devin Hester is a punt return specialist. Arnaz Battle was not anywhere near good enough to consider him a specialist. He was just a guy that was back there fielding punts because we had nobody else who was better. We brought in Allen Rossum because we didn't have any good kick or punt returners. People need to understand this.
I agree he's no Devin Hester and i would pick him as a PR/KR over AB, but look at the Career AVG
AB: PR-9.0yds KR-19.6yds
DH:PR-12.0yds KR-22.8yds
Again, I'm not implying hes even up to par with Hester, but hes no slouch. I'm not saying, i'm just saying, and I use the Term PR Specialist loosely, but curiously enough i could not find an official definition for it.
Well, looky here! We last about....two days before the latest anti-Battle slam.
Only 1,205,753 and counting. The originality is sublime.

Can we start a new one tomorrow? We need more of these. I demand a new one every day!!!! Rally, people!

As I've said for maybe the 3,000th time now (this will make it the 3,001st time, until a new anti-Battle thread starts in about....2 days), Battle was the leading receiver on this team in 2008 before his injury. And, he wasn't even the starter last season. NO!!!!!!!IT CAN'T BE TRUE!!!!!!!!THE HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While it is true that this season may finally catch up to Battle, every year far too many, how do I say this nicely....oh, I better leave it blank... board members cheer for his demise. And every year, the ghosts of Niners receivers from the past are added to the list. Meanwhile, Battle is like a cockroach in the nuclear holocaust. Shouldn't the board walk gently on this subject? Battle has made many look like a fool.

The Ghost of Niners Receivers Past: Antonio Bryant, Darrell Jackson, Ashley Lelie, Bryant Johnson.

I would like to understand why Battle has become the object of scorn by so many board members. It is really the....oh, I better not say it again.... thing. The guy was a late-round draftee, he busts his rear every game, he is an outstanding blocker, a team leader, a really good guy, and yet...this constant cheering for his demise is really odd.

Since I do not have access to a brain scan on the individuals who cheer for his release, can someone help me comprehend this hate. I seriously have never understood it all of these years. Is there a neurologist in the house?

Fact check: One poster incorrectly stated in this thread that Battle only caught one ball after Singletary became the coach. The correct number is three, and it was in the one game before he went down with an injury. Singletary became a head coach on October 20, 2008, and Battle's last game before injury was October 26, 2008.

Already going through withdrawals for the newest anti-Battle thread. Someone, please don't let me suffer.

Cheers.
