ILB: Patrick Willis, Ahmad Brooks
OLB: Parys Haralson, Brandon Long

CB Jahi Word-Daniels
CB Carlos Thomas
CB Terrail Lambert
OG Matt Huners
WR Dobson Collins

These are the issues I see. I think we find someway to keep Ulbrich, Hudson, and Ziegler around. I have a feeling Brooks doesn't make it and Ulbrich keeps his spot, but will probably lose it next year. Hudson has good special teams talent so he may find a spot on the practice squad. Ziegler probably will hit the practice squad as well. With this being the last year on Bruce's contract I would hope we can hold on to him for the time being.

For the final 53 I only have a few qualms. I really dont see us carrying 4 QB's on the final roster. I think Balmer will get the staring nod at DE. I would also put R Smith as the #2 FS, if Goldson gets hurt I would rather have a replacement who has at least a little NFL experience.

Lastly both Battle and Ray Mac are coming off injuries. We may be able to slide at least one of them in on the PUP list.

I just don't think Kentwan Balmer has shown enough to unseat an NFL veteran like Demetric Evans. I am not and have never been enamored with Balmer. Maybe he'll be a situational pass rusher. I just don't think he'll amount to much.

Good call on the PUP list. That would be a way to keep a guy like Hudson around.

My thinking on Balmer is this, he was a top 40 talent. Because of that alone I have some faith in the kid. He got his "year" to learn the ropes and get adjusted to the NFL. At this point Sing needs to throw him to the wolves and see if he can fend for himself or get eaten. I think Nolan wasn't trying to get the kid in the game.....like a few others that I never understood. Given the correct amount of playing time I think he will finally start to come around. Remember Evans was only signed to a 2 year deal so he didn't wow anybody if that's the best he can get.

If we can get 1st round quality of play out of both Balmer and Lawson "that finally turning the corner mentality" our D will be improved immensely. If you look at the numbers we were a top 15 defense last year. With a much better offense this year I can expect a further improvement of 2-3 spots. Add in the subtraction of Nolan and the Big Nickel and I see an improvement of 1-2 spots. Lastly the removal of Roman and the revampment of our DB's could also mean 1-2 spots. If everything comes together accordingly we could be a top 10 defense at years end. If you want to look further down the road to 2010 our 2 #1 picks could easily translate to two defensive players, either a DT, OLB, or FS. I don't want to get ahead of myself but all the holes should be fixed. Throw a TED and another starter worthy CB in the mix and DAMN we got a real defense!!!!!

We'll have a real defense once we draft Mount Cody and Eric Berry/Taylor Mays.

lol. I wish.

Let P.Willie play all the positions on D, and Crabtree play all the positions on O.

19-0.
I think the niners will have Davis over Huard, and Huard will likely be cut.
Huard is a PROVEN QB in the NFL. He is a solid backup with pretty good credentials when he started. Way better than Smith and can mentor Davis.

Robinson is a lock on this team and these Clayton lovers make no sense at all. In fact, some of them list only one FB. We'll carry Gore, Coffee and Sheets as RB's.

MRob will be the backup FB to Norris as well as the Wildcat QB which Jimmy Raye WILL USE. You NEVER cut your best special teams player and captain who is the most versatile player on the team for a GQ model who can't block or catch.

Gotta say that I am pretty sure that Nate Davis will beat out huard, and Rick Jean-Francois can make the team too. Also I heard that Alex Boone would be tried at RT instead of LT.
Balmer or MacDonald won't make the team, either due to injury or lack of performance. Jean-Francois (Frenchy) is a real sleeper. I watched him play this season and liked him as much as Tyson Jackson. I think we got a steal.

A couple of quick thoughts;

1. Clayton doesn't make the team

2. We wont' carry 10 OL, so someone has to go, Sims or Boone

3. Zeigler doesn't make the team.

4. Brian Jennings makes the team. He is the best Long Snapper in the NFL.

5. I have my doubts about Ahmed Brooks also, seems like a classic underachiever.
Great post #64!

You pretty much nailed it. By far the best 53 roster posted.

Edit - we don't need 4 QB's, the only error I overlooked you made. Cut Huard and just keep Robinson.

i dont think some of you know how valuable MR is to the special teams unit. he is a big reason why we were good in that category.
On Rossum's kickoff return for a TD, MRob threw the block that got him around the corner, got up and in front of Rossum, then pancaked another defender. He's a great special teams player, not to mention that he's an excellent wide receiver and played a big role with his 4th quarter circus catch when we beat the Redskins. He's a great athlete who can backup Norris at FB, and he'll be our Wildcat QB. Raye loved him in minicamp and used him a variety of ways. This kid was mishandled by Nolan. BIG SURPRISE.
