What would be the sense in keeping 6 D-lineman??

Depth in case of injury . . . same reason we keep 8 or 9 o-linemen. It's brutal in the trenches.

Last year we kept 6 D-lineman, and for what we didn't need them. Balmer of course is a given even though he didn't contribute last year. Fields, hardly saw any time in the rotation and basically could have used this spot to elevate Clayton for more playing time due to Gores injuries. McDonald came in on passing downs. So basically you really only had Sopoaga, Smith, Franklin and McDonald contributing last year, Balmer was pretty much the floater. Keeping 5 D-lineman on the active roster really free's up space in a much needed area like OLB, we could always have Khalif Mitchell hidden away on the practice squad.

Tear it up!

You're definitely close, Sonoco......pretty realistic. I've just got a few comments. Agree with all the locks on defense but I'm not sure if Battle and Pascoe are locks on offense. I think Battle has stiff competition and Pascoe hasn't played well enough to lock a spot just yet. He could start the year on the practice squad.

The problem with this year's team (and it is the good kind of problem to have) is that Zeigler, Sheets, Boone, and RJF have all shown too much to risk running them through waivers to put on the PS. You run a real risk of losing any of them if you do. N Davis and Taylor might even fall into this category but I don't think so. I think these two will end up on the PS. Ziggy would be lost for certain and that would suck. The guy can play. Boone and RJF look like they have some real talent and would also probably be picked up. I think Sheets makes the team because he just adds a new dimension to the offense.

Does that mean you have to have all of these guys on the final roster? I don't know, frankly. This is why I think guys like Battle, Hudson, J Moore, and Roman may have a real problem making this team. In any case, that PS is going to have some good players on it too.....bodes well for the future. Good thread lads....

I'm going to suggest something heretical: I don't see Norris as a lock. I'd like to see a starting backfield of Gore and Coffee. This will make teams honest by not keying on Frank. Coffee showed he can block.

There are some guys that we overpaid just to get them signed. Moran Norris is one of them. Consider him a lock.

for the Jason Hill detractors....the guy has caught all of his passes I believe and has also extended drives on 3rd down........I would rather see him get more playing time than Arnez Battle.....

and Brandon Jones isn't even back yet....we have alot of receivers.

there is no need to over pay for Crabtree.

I'm no GM....but I mean....I'm just thinking about the cap money we would save that we can invest in a safety next year and also in extending current players who have proved themselves.

I know some believe there will be a CAP free year soon enough....but I don't think so.

also I don't really like that #57 LB guy.......I feel #54 (Harris I believe) looks better out there.
