From my memory only, I always recall that when a team has one of, if not THE best MLB in the league, the defense will become dominant sooner rather than later.

But what you're forgetting bud are the guys who play in front of them that allow them to either get to the QB of penetrate the OL and disrupt the running game. If you name a great defense with a star LB, I'll bet I can find at least one maybe two GREAT no-name DT who get push and demand double-teams.

Oh no, I agree with you. I'm just saying...there have been more teams with great MLBs vs teams with just great defensive lines. A great MLB can cause so many problems for an offense. The Line must be solid, but the MLB IS the QB of the defense.

and who is this great mlb we have that you speak of??

the future looks bright with P.Willis, J.Smith and rising stars such as T.Brown & P.Haralson. Here's to a badass top 5 defense next year!

We're not the Ravens or the Bears and any attempt to become a replica of these franchises will be futile. The fans will not buy into that type of boring football for very long. Defense is only there to serve as a p**s break between offensive possessions. Singletary is just a continuation of the awful, backwards ass Midwestern-East coast mindset that was forced upon us by Nolan.

Tell that to pittsburg. That is exactly what they are, a defensive constructed team that plays a ball control/smash mouth/high percentage offensive football. May seem boring but I think it works IMO.

Stop it right now. We're not going to be the next Pittsburgh Sleelers. Just like we were never going to become the next New England Patriots or Philadelphia Eagles or Baltimore Ravens. We flip flop so much over what we want to be. We are Wanna Be's, we are posers. We do not have the organizational competency to be anything other than a lucky 7-9. Our ownership is terrible, our front office is a joke and our coaching staff will continue to be the butt of David Letterman jokes until the religious fanatic is finally relieved of his duties. This team will be 2-14.

Then go away, no one this forum will miss you...

2-14, you sound like a Browns fan. I think we have a top 10 defense this year, Manusky schemes are established now, and Nolan is gone to stop screwing things up. They'll all play with Sing's intensity. We just have to learn to force more turnovers. The offense is solid enought to capitilize off of those.

LOL, okay now you have gone overboard....2-14??? really?

you have lost all credibility, i think you might be joking but idk

oh yea, nice name, you obviously are a singletary fan cuz your so optimistic

Why is 2-14 any less credible than the 11-5 some are predicting?
At this point it's all guesswork and opinion. Singfan is entitled to his.
I share his opinion that we have the worst ownership, front office and coaching in our division. Singletary's farcical efforts in resolving the OC situation, has done nothing to alleviate concern about our leadership.
The present team is just a continuation of the previous Nolan regime albeit with LESS intelligence at the HC position (and I was one of the first to be in favor of replacing Nolan - after his second season). Hopefully, they will have learned something from the mistakes made in the past. But I don't think that will prove enough. We needed a complete FO/Coaching overhaul . . . we didn't get it. But we're talking like we did.
As for our defense . . . we need some serious upgrade in our pass-rushing capabilities. Where are we going to get it? The draft is no guarantee. Can Singletary attract serious FA talent? We'll see. He could surprise me . . . but I'm not holding my breath.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but "singfan" doesn't seem like much of a "49er fan" 2-14? if you have that kind of faith for our team, maybe you should consider being a fan of the oakland raiders or detroit lions. as horrible as the yorks and the rest of the Nolan era managment has been, i personally still have a lot of hope for our future. at least better than 2-14.

Haralson is pretty good and I we'll surely add to the WILL this offseason. It's starting to come together for us.

that being said, we don't need Suggs.

ya we do we need to make haralson a situational pass-rusher, and suggs doesnt just get the qb, hes good in pass coverage and good against the run, suggs should be our number 1 target in free agency, terrell suggs can put our d over the top

What? Being a fan doesn't mean that you bury your head in the sand and make grandiose predictions based on nothing other than blind faith. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. There is not one thing that I truly like about this organization other that the name (San Francisco 49ers) and Patrick Willis. Sucks, Eh? But let me tell you something that sucks more. Watching this incompetent organization function like a bunch of buffoons year in and year out. We needed an organizational makeover from top to bottom, but instead, we got Singletary and freakin' Jimmy Raye. Pardon me for not stroking over this. As sick as this may sound, we were better off with Nolan.

If you're so sure about how dysfunctional this organization is, then go put in your resume, I'm sure they'd hire you in a second considering you're such a football expert.

Whether or not I'm a football expert really doesn't matter. What I do know, however, is that the best talent was not brought into this organization. That's not even disputable. Singletary, while doing a decent job to the finish the season, was prematurely hired. They got caught up in the feel good story. Shoot, the media practically forced the Singletary hire. That's what a lack of competent front office leadership will get you. And don't even get me started on the hiring of Jimmy Raye. Sing lost me as soon as Raye walked into the building.

I think that you are trying to believe in the direction that we are going. I, however, just find it hard to believe that we all we needed in order to be successful was some pants dropping motivation from our head coach and some offensive coordination from a 62 year old deposed Jets running back coach.

See, I don't believe that you actually believe that either. That is why we are going to cling so tightly to the notion that "our defense will be nasty in 09". That the removal of Nolan will fix everything. It's really all we have. We need to somehow convince ourselves that nobody will score on us. We need to become the "Cardinal curtain". I'm not buying this "plan" for a second.

I'm not "trying to believe" in anything. I am, however, willing to give Jimmy Raye a chance. You, in your infinite wisdom, have proclaimed that there's no way that we will have any kind of decent offense next season and that we will be 2-14. I've made no predictions about the quality of the 49ers next season, and I won't yet, because I don't see the point in it. I do, however, believe that getting rid of Nolan was the best thing we could have done for the organization.

All I needed to see to believe in the hiring of Singletary was the video of locker room and the players reaction when they were told that he was going to be the head coach. The players love him, they love playing for him, they love his passion for the game of football. He's the kind of guy that players would run through a brick wall for. That is the kind of head coach that I would want on my football team. In the NFL it's about the players, and the players want Singletary as their coach.

Everything else as this point, remains to be seen, and I will not judge it yet.

Nolan's big nickel garbage, complicating the gameplan week after week, not giving Manusky full reign was a headache. Since Singletary took over, he simplified things, made us strictly a 3-4, and let Manusky handle the playcalling. We improved dramatically during Interim Sing...

the future looks bright with P.Willis, J.Smith and rising stars such as T.Brown & P.Haralson.

"...we were better off with Nolan."
You gotta be f'ing kidding me. It was Nolan's bright idea to let Martz start and keep JTO'Suckavin around for as long as he did. All those close games this past season were blown by JTO's turnover happy ass and interceptions into the end zone. Nolan didn't pull the trigger on putting Shaun Hill in. Singletary made the change and look what happened. We started winning games. How many wins did Nolan accumulate for our team in his reign as head coach? Nolan is 18-37, that's a .327 winning record. And you're telling us that we were better off with Nolan?
In my opinion, another 2 or 3 wins last season and we would've been in the playoffs.

Mike Singletary has 5 wins in half of a season. He was put on the spot, didn't have much time to prepare, and managed to make some changes to our roster and starting lineup that led to success. Saying that we will be 2-14 next season is just pathetic on your part. We would probably be 2-14 if Nolan WAS still around.

You are really not a true fan if all you like is the NAME of the organization and Patrick Willis. I'm sorry.

And by the way, your screen name is somewhat contradicting don't you think?
