You have an opportunity to bring in a guy with his kind of resume for potentially a 2nd rounder??? This organization needs this so bad it hurts. And you dont pull the trigger? I dont care what his salary demands were!!

Make it happen! Unless a big name candidate comes out I just dont know a name that will trump Sean Payton.

We don't know that they wanted a 2nd rounder. The price may have been much, much higher. Who knows how this will play out. If you told me two years ago that Harbaugh was leaving and we had a shot at chip kelly I would have been confused and thrilled. It's all about the results. Hue has done a masterful job with that offense.

Let there be no mistake, Sean Payton was open to leaving New Orleans. But interest in him, with compensation, not what he thought it'd be.

Da fuq did he want $100 mil for 10 years.

Not what he wanted, what Loomis wanted. That whole 2nd rounder rumor was a farce. Gruden trade set precedent and no team is willing to mortgage their future.

Exactly, I remember when this Payton thing first started, I said it would be to expensive if is anything near the Gruden deal and people were saying no man it would be far less like a mid-round pick. Nah, no way. Why would Loomis let Payton go when they have the No. 1 Passing O in the league? All they have to do is to fix the D.

According to some on here, we were going to get him for a 4th . I don't agree with Rascal on much, but I 100% agree on this.

The logic there is if Payton wanted out. If he wanted to leave the Saints then they would have to take whatever they could get. Clearly he didn't want to leave that bad.

It wasn't up to him.

It's like Carson Palmer with the Bengals. He wanted out and the Bengals said no until a retarded team offered a 1st AND a 2nd round pick.

Oh well, just have to settle on keeping our 2nd Rd pick... which Baalke will use on an injured player headed to IR.

This is a bogus narrative.

That 2nd round pick can be used for many things -- including a trade up into the top 5 or back into the late 1st round.

Nah, he's more likely to do what I predicted.

In his entire history as GM he has selected 1 injured player in the 2nd round -- Tank Carradine. So, I don't think what you're suggesting is likely at all. In fact, it's a near certainty that he won't.

First post was sarcastic since Baalke doesn't have a good track record (yes I was thinking of Tank). Since you responded seriously, my reply was a joke, just so we're clear. But thanks for serious replies, I agree with your posts.

Just to reiterate, it was never confirmed that all they wanted was a second. That was all media speculation so please quit running with this "they didn't want to give a 2nd up for a superbowl winning coach" crap.

This! Loomis was not letting him go for peanuts no matter what.

If you go back and look at the Gruden deal you will get a pretty good idea of what NO may have asked for Payton, assuming it got that far. That being the case, it would have been foolish to have made any deal similar to that.

Payton is not the only capable HC candidate out there. Jackson, Koetter, and a couple others would be big improvements over the past 12 months.

It's completely ignorant and asinine to blame York and Baalke for the Saints not trading Payton to the 49ers.

we could not control what the saints were doing and IF the asking price was a one or a two,, then hell with them

the Rooney rule prevented everything between the Saints and 9ers
NO is going to have to get rid of Brees. It will be a rebuild. Payton is gone in two years. They really want Marrone to take his place.
They would like to make a change now but are playing hardball to get high compensation for him. We need to call their bluff. Start interviewing Marrone. Hell, hire him and then we can trade them the coach they want for the future for Payton.
Wonder what they were asking and if we were even close to getting him
What a fabanooch.

Says he's available. Names sf as a candidate.

Last day says ,"It's between NO and SF."

Huh? They interviewed Lynn yesterday and could have made a trade for Payton today if they really had the chance. Rooney Rule didn't prevent anything.
Trading for payton is a reach anyways.
