Do you think Sanchez's agent call Condon to tell him "your welcome, I just got you paid"?

He will probably request 40 million a year by then.

It seems like most people are missing the point. Kolb, Fitzgerald, Sanchez deals and Palmer's pay this year from the Raiders just set the base for starting quarterback pay (just like a bunch of $8 million/season that set the base 4-5 years ago). The elite QB pay already went to $18+ million/season. Most likely if Smith walks, the 49ers will have to pay an average QB the same $12+ million/season in pay. Flynn may very well cost that much or more. Smith would be actually be a bargain at the price that Cam Inman guessed would be.

It isn really the average, it's the guaranteed money that is outrageous. Sanchez got 20M, Fitz got 24M, No way in hell is Alex worth that much. He had 1 good season, and shouldn't get anywhere near 10M a yr average.
And 3yr deal is fair. He isnt a franchise QB. Just isnt, like I doubt Flynn is. I'd much rather sign Josh Johnson and let Alex exit. He isnt getting 50M+ with any team, including us.
Just go after Peyton, or say screw you alex, and move on.

I didn;'t realize he passed 26 touch downs last year... but just the few times I've seen him play, I don't think he will be their QB in 3-4 years

This will really test Baalke even though Alex's options are limited. I would love to see Alex hit free agency. He'd have to
sign for a garbage side like Jacksonville or come back hat in hand and sign the deal. If Alex walks, good riddance. Signing
another average QB to a big deal is stupid.

None of those guys worth that much either (but in the case of Sanchez, the $20 million is slightly deceptive as the Jet would owe him almost as much if they retains him). And when the deal is multiple years, the math for starting QB is pushing the expected price to the range $20+ million up front money. Take a look at the deals signed in recent years. It's just the market price. Many of those guys with fat deal fell flat on their face (Kolb, Cassel), but the standard deal size hasn't been affected. Until all teams agree not to play the game, the standard deal size will continue.
Frankly I don't want to be pro either side of the negotiation. The teams can cut a QB just as quickly when they owe him money (Peyton Manning is the most recent example). It's a business. Both sides want to maximize their gains. What a player is worth is up to the market to decide.
