BEN, ... it's a MLB stadium...... an OLD MLB stadium ...
True that -- One that should have never been built at Candelstick Point ... a story I'm sure, most in theses forums have heard.
Well, the land was originally slated as a dump ...
then a quarry, and industrial development. Probably weather-wise, the worst place they could have chosen, to place a MLB stadium:
"The stadium is situated at Candlestick Point on the western shore of the San Francisco Bay. Due to its location next to the bay, strong winds often swirl down into the stadium, creating unusual playing conditions
Most of the land at Candlestick Point was purchased from Charles Harney
, a local contractor. Harney purchased the land in 1952 for a quarry and industrial development
. He made a profit of over $2 million when he sold the land for the stadium
. Harney received a no-bid contract to build the stadium. The entire deal was the subject of a Grand Jury investigation in 1958.
Blah, blah, blah ... you know, one of those back room deals between friends
