How the NFC West QBs stack up statistically

This is going to be an interesting year in the NFC West. I honestly think it's going to come down to whoever has the best offensive line. The rams have spent their last 2-3 drafts drafting offensive linemen in the early rounds, I'm afraid of them!

statistically no, Bradford has the slight edge.

Right, because a 6 season sample isn't enough to figure out what he is.
Exactly! But some on here just cant grasp that logic...

Just don't go jumping off a bridge when he fails this season.

Insanity = doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...

Wow... I guess I'll have to spell it out for you. I agree with what you are saying.

Agree. The breakdown of Smith's QB Rating by receiver tells a more accurate story but you can go much further and look at the play calling and when passes were utilized. Also, it helps to know what routes were available versus various defenses.
That said, the comparative stats are interesting but the coaches are more intriguing.
Bradford is on his second good OC, and needs to do more before I annoint him a great QB, but he wasn't bad his first year. Daniels is a talented guy and I would expect him to get the most from Bradford. Can the coaches keep their egos in check? Daniels will be looking for another HC job any minute now--maybe Martz will be available to help Bradford's career in his third year?
Kolb had Andy Reid teaching him which is a big boost as far as preparation goes and I would expect him to be better this year if he can throw to someone other than Fitz. Is OC Miller really good or did he have terrific WRs who made him look good? Have to see what he does with Doucet and all those rookie receivers this year.
Jackson doesn't inspire much confidence as he was very erratic in the past. Showed promise in 2007 and his pass % has gone up each year (though 2007 was the only year he started more than half the games). They are putting players in position for him but are they there yet? Carrol had them playing at a fever pitch last year, can they maintain that level? He failed twice in the NFL--though he did well his first year at NE, the next two years went backwards.
Smith has a coach! Imagine how nice that must be! In six up and down years he "did not lose the lockerroom" because the players knew what he was going through. That's the first time I've seen that written and it means a lot to me. Players don't usually continue to follow a QB unless they have faith in his overall ability and toughness. Last chance? In SF, but he is still young enough to have a number of chances if this year doesn't work out.
It will be exciting to watch this year and, if all these coaches continue to succeed, the West may become dominant for a change.

Edit: frenchmov--go back and watch video of Smith at Utah and then watch Bradford at Ok. You will see that, at that level, Smith was every bit as good as Bradford. Both were over-hyped. Smith's teams were 21-1, with two bowl game victories (playing well in big games). Bradford set all kinds of records but his teams lost both bowl games. So, does any of this matter? I do not see more potential in Bradford, but Smith has at least had a chance to cash in on his potential and has not so far. This year will be fun!

So you finally admit that Smith is not fit to be a starting QB in this league? Finally, a break through!

Yes, yes I have. My viewpoint is fully backed up by the statistics Alex has produced. Now what people infer based off what I say is a different story; but, I have always been consistant with saying that Alex hasn't lived up to expectations; but, that dosen't mean he can't. However, if we calculate the odds of him improving based off the previous seasons he's shown us, it is unlikely that he will become a top 10 QB...

Huh... When have I ever said he is fit to be a starting QB? I think you have me confused with someone else...
But, to answer you question, he's fit to start for someone like the Browns or Bangles or maybe even the Raiders; however, for my Niners, I'd like to see a better QB in the huddle...

I will take the "winner" over the statistically better every time. Call it the "it" or "clutch" factor or whatever you want. Is AS a winner? If we have to ask after 6 years, I have serious doubts.
Adapt, overcome....that's what winner's do. Sure, AS has had a tough road, but at some point....you gotta be a winner, you gotta adapt and overcome. He has yet to do that in a definitive, consistent way...and has been given plenty of opportunity to do so.
Hope the guy succeeds (I am as open to AS being a winner as I am to Kap, or Harb's dog for that matter), but I have my serious doubts about it with him.

Well, if you say that won/loss is the marker, or QB rating, then Smith has been a failure. Those of us who see extenuating circumstances believe we have not seen the best Smith can provide. I went back and watched some video of Smith at Utah and was amazed at how fluidly he played. 21-1 with two bowl victories for a very young QB. So, to me, he has more potential than Nolan and Singletary were able to gleen. But, that is based on my watching him since Utah and seeing him do all the things a good QB needs to do...just not consistently.
Improvements I have seen include better touch, calm demeaner in tough situations, better recognition of the D (check downs), etc. Not there yet but Harbaugh may get him the rest of the way.

See I can agree with all of that. Now statistical evaluation of his performance in the NFL indicates that it is not likely that he will become the QB that most of us want for our team. Where he has show improvement in areas you identified he has not grown at the rate of QBs drafted after him (same year or years since). He's by far not the worst QB to come out of college; but, he's also not one of the better ones.
Holding out hope that he will become that guy is fine and all; but, there comes a time when it's time to cut bait and re-cast your line to try and catch something real instead of hanging on hope. That's where I'm at...

Don't disagree with that except that I want the 9ers to develop multiple QBs and play the best guy. If it continues to be Smith, great! If it's CK--great! If it's a rookie to be named later...oh well, another learning process, but...great! Want to see super bowls, not just good teams.
