I agree that there is no QB that stands out but it is all about how the Niners organization feels about this situation. At least it will be entertaining.

I bet Harbaugh is focused on a QB and possibly a backup. Getting one of them will determine draft day strategy. If Gabbert is in his sites and available at #7, done deal. Otherwise I would bet on drafting back if the situation allows. [b]Baalke will get Harbaugh his QB.[b]

Same could be said for Gabbert considering we attended the pro day then had a personal workout with him.

Or maybe he really likes Cam or Jake, as sometimes teams show little to no interest in the players they covet the most. See Jay Cutler and Brandon Graham as two recent examples of this.

I think we have more needs a defense then people realize. We have no NT, Passrushing OLb, shutdown CB and we dont even know if we are good at the saftey or inside Lb position. If we trade back we can get a good CB, NT and OLB.

good OLB and NT (especially NT) are found later in draft CBs are found kinda early

i see 1st round CB(peterson or prince)
if houston or brooks reed falls we take him in 2nd

otherwise in 3rd we should take moch sam acho or someone like that

in 4th we can take powe or fua

I hope Dalton pans out but i really like Ponder!! Dalton reminds me of Charlie Frye in a way

I honestly think there's a good chance that Harbaugh and Trent will take a long term view in their first draft together. There's no QB worth taking whereas there will probably be two elite players available next year in Barkley and Luck, so with that in mind I could see a trade back to add ammunition for next year's draft. In fact if peterson is available then the Niners can definitely ask for two firsts for the honour of drafting him.

What type of trade would need to go down if a team offered next years 1st for our 7th pick?

There is a possibility that there wouldn't be a draft but i doubt that will every happen as much success the draft has had in years past.

This is honestly all I am hoping for out of this draft. Maximizing the leverage of our first round pick for as much ammunition as possible in next years draft. Then taking best player available with our remaining other picks.

If we are shrewd about trading back with our number 7 overall we should easily be able to get two additional 2012 first round picks from teams that we project to do poorly next year, especially one's who draft their "franchise qb" this year.

For instance:

Say a team like the Bills, Bengals or Redskins covet a qb (Gabbert) and take another premium player with their pick to build their defense or offense. For our pick we could get their 2nd round pick this year, as well as their first and third rounder in 2012. Then trade their second round pick this year to another team that we project to pick high the following year (like we did with the panthers) in exchange for their number 1 the following year.

This would give us 3 first round picks and two third round picks for 2012. We would have a high chance of picking high enough (top 3) for Luck/Barkley (with three first round picks of bottom feeders) and worst case can leverage those picks with a team that doesn't need a qb but happens to be picking that high.

Also, if Harbauggh really likes Kolb that much then we can trade one of those first round picks for Kolb instead once the lockout is lifted and still have two firsts and two thrids going into next year to use as we see fit.

All for just not using our number 7 this year. Given how many picks we've had bust or be minimal contributors I'd much prefer my chances this way.

This would not happen. You dont trade like for like. You trade our 2nd this year for next year's 1st. By trading this year's 1st for someone else's 1st next year we could end up getting a significantly poorer pick, if they have a good year, and it is one year off.

So they would have to throw in a good player, or more picks to make it possible.
