Compensatory Picks coming Friday

Some people have pointed out that the 49ers "can't trade their comp. picks" That may be true, but they also have two other picks in the 7th round . . . and they can package those other two 7th round picks (along with perhaps something else . . .like one of their two 6th rounders or one of their two 4th rounders) to use for ammunition to trade up.

If they did do this, they would still have the two comp picks in the 7th, so these two 7th round comp. picks make their other two 7th round picks more "trade-able".

I'm thinking it'd be worthwhile to trade down from #7 to get another decent pick...that way, they could go after either Ponder or Locker and end up with 13 picks. Seems likely they'll draft two QB's now...one early, another late. As already stated, plenty of picks to trade up and grab a player they really want/need. BL: this could be the most dynamic, interesting and fruitful draft in years. Anxious to see what Baalke and Harbaugh can do together.

I'm for trading down the 7th overall, but then packaging a bunch of the bottom end picks for either moving up in this draft, or higher picks next draft (i prefer higher picks next draft). It's a proven model that having multiple 2nd/3rd round picks every year builds a winner.

We don't get any type of second thought when it comes to the filmed practice in London; but we ARE the example of the league getting punished. We have an Andy Reid who has ongoing relations (or whatever) during the season with our player under contract, but no worries for his team. Although at the same time we are getting fined for our CURRENT COACH GETTING TO KNOW OUR CURRENT QB.

Wrong. Michael Lewis and Glen Coffee do not qualify in the formula used to award comp picks, this has NOTHING to do with an east coast bias.

Can you cite any examples of players who retired and a team was awarded a pick because someone they drafted retired after ONE NFL season ?

I could not agree more. NE is the master of getting 4 2nd round picks year after year. Pioli admits that NE values 2 sound rounders more than 1 1st round pick. Last year was the time to trade down multiple times to get 2nd rounders and future picks, but alas they traded up for anthony davis. I think this year the talent cliff falls off after 10 or so, thus the niners should stay at 7, unless they an drop only a few spots and pick up a 3rd or 2 late first roundrs.

One year too late...Gore and Blount would of been a great combo.

I already called and talked to his secretary about Crabtrees tampering back then... that was funny! I knew I wouldnt get the call-back. And I remember voicing my opinion to Crabtrees agency office too. I was pissed.


I don't think he'll pull my name to make that draft pick this year, but oh well. Still, being a 49er fan trumps all.
