i was about to say the same thing...lets not draft davis out of desperation or else we gonna end up with another kwame harris...if all the top OL are gone by the time we pick and davis is the only one on the board i say BPA..

I think it is dangerous to think every risky OT is going to be Kwame Harris. Kwame no longer works for the 49ers. Don't give him a seat at the drafting table. (:

If Davis is there I think we take him. I've read some scouting reports and some say he's one of the most gifted blockers in the draft and the only red flag teams have is his work ethic. If Singletary can get Vercon Davis in check I think he can get Anthony in check too.

He is still one of the better offensive tackles in this class, but he is developing a reputation as a player who lacks the desire to compete at the next level. A flu that caused him to miss his pro day is hardly a reason to believe he lacks desire, but that is the way these things can work. Not showing up is never a good thing and Davis does have a small history of such incidents during his time at Rutgers. In the end, Davis will not fall out of the first round, but he is falling out of the top ten."

I don't think you can compare the two. Vernon Davis had good work ethic, it was more he was so gung ho and at times make boneheaded actions. Where as AD is not motivated because he already thinks he is already there (good) and is complacent. You want a guy like Jery Rice-what else can I do to stay ahead of the others.

Davis has been a much better player in college than Kwame was.

The question is, which player would you rather have? Davis or Brown?

Davis is perfect for what we want in a right tackle, and we would have to accommodate our offense for Brown because he is not a mauler.

I have never seen an O-lineman get knocked on their backside as much as Kwame did.
I can't imagine the same thing happening to Davis, he is a much more powerfully built man than Kwame.

Good question and a hard one to answer. Both have a lot of upside but both also have a lot of bust factors. I do think Davis is more NFL ready than Brown but I think Brown is a bit of a safer pick even though he may a year away from starting in the NFL and he also has big upside to him. I'd probably lean towards taking Davis just because I think he would be a better fit at RT than Brown but I wouldn't complain if we got either but I also wouldn't be all that crazy if we took either. I wish somehow we could get Trent Williams at 13 or move up a few spots to get him and then at 17 go best player available and hopefully take Brandon Graham.

He thinks hes the best tackle in the draft


I wouldn't mind taking him, I think if we took him it means Sing did his work and is sure that he's going to be serious about the NFL.

IMO ... AD in having a 'poor work ethic' is alot more than a red flag it is a 'road block' and not worth taking a risk on,we can do better....come on, he blew off his pro-day work out and didn't even show up.

Singletary wining, dining Rutgers tackle Anthony Davis tonight
Rutgers offensive tackle Anthony Davis is on his way to San Francisco this afternoon, according to his agent. He'll have dinner with coach Mike Singletary tonight and has a full day of meetings tomorrow. Davis reminds me a lot of a tackle that was taken in last year's draft, Andre Smith. Like Smith, Davis has some character/work ethic concerns and his stock has taken a tumble. The question, however, is whether that tumble has occurred solely in media or on teams' draft boards. Smith, after all, was supposedly in a "freefall" at this time last year. He ended up being drafted sixth overall.


Davis held a private workout in New Jersey on Tuesday, the same day Singletary and Trent Baalke were in Lufkin, Texas checking out receiver Dez Bryant. Eleven teams watched Davis, who weighed in at 327 pounds, go through position drills, and the 49ers had two scouts in attendance.

Davis already has visited the Bills (9th overall pick) and met with the Raiders (8th), and there's a good chance he doesn't last to pick No. 13. If he does, it's very hard to see the 49ers passing him up. He's big, athletic and can play left tackle - which is what the 49ers would prefer if they're taking a tackle 13th overall. Furthermore, Singletary really wanted to draft a tackle last year. That desire has to be even greater this year.

Now with all that being said, I think offensive line coach Mike Solari has to have a good feeling about his offensive line after seeing them in a two-day OTA earlier this week. First, everyone was there, including guard David Baas, who is smart to have signed an injury waiver and taken part in the team's offseason program. Baas is making sure nobody prematurely steps into his left guard spot. Alex Boone has been reborn, which is another positive. But most of all, there was a sense from the offensive lineman that they'd listened to and read a lot of criticism and that they were intent on proving themselves in 2010. And that might have been the most positive development from OTAs.
