Well this F^@%er says b/c if we dont get him we play him!
Weigh the Pro's and COn's about the guy and you tell me (us F^@%ers) that we dont need him.
We need help on our O more so than our D. Imagine if the D wasnt on the field 45 out of 60 min? Imagine we had a kick returner. Imagine we have a change of pace back to compliment Gore (who has been hurt and missed time the last 2 yrs)and run a dual threat back backfield which is what over 75% of the NFL teams are doin now (it is a copycat league of trend you know). Imagine we get a runnin back to compliment Gore's backup (Coffee) b/c Gore is close to 30 (not that i believe in that) and we alredy have his backup. Imagine if you actually draft for the future?
ANd your COns are on the guy are?
I do think your picks are good (OT) but with little reasoning (DE/OLB, and we already have, what 6-8 LBS on contract) and would not pick them.... you gave no evidence why we need more help on D and not on O. We need to expand our O-playmakers we have a D-minded HC and a good D that can very well be Great at times so its there.

Weren't we 3rd in the league in sacks?
As long as we get one of the top tier OT's and not Taylor Mays with the other pick i will be happy

forget about the future we need to worry about the present if we want this team to go somewhere we need an Oline i cant name the last team to make a run at the playoffs with a bottom 5 o line it just simply cant be done Oline has to be the priority if you want to win NOW

Looks like all the OT''s will be gone by 13 so we might have no choice but to take Spiller.

All of the high grade left tackles may be gone by 13. If not we will have many options and high quality picks at 13 the question will be which one will SF take? I personally would like Williams/Spiller/Graham and whoever is left over at 17.

I was on the Spiller bandwagon early, but I think it's completely out of control now. I would rather have Best than Spiller. They are very similar; however, I think Best is the better pure runner. My only hesistation with Spiller is that he will cost an early 1st and I just don't see him as a guy that will ever challenge for a rushing title. He's more of a situational guy, IMO. I think he's best be suited for a team like the Eagles or the Patriots.
Also, I think McCluster was a bit overrated for a while on this board also. I wouldn't spend our 2nd on him, but if he's there in the 3rd, I wouldn't hesitate to grab him. McCluster is a poor man's Harvin. If we continue to play out of the Shotgun, McCluster would fit our offense nicely. He has the quicknes and speed to get up field in a hurry. Plus, he's even more dangerous as a receiver.
To take it a step further, I think we really have to land one of these speedy backs. If you watch the Chargers play, you'll see how much Rivers relies on dumping the ball off to his backs and TE. We have Vernon, but we don't really have a threat out of the backfield. I love Gore. Don't get me wrong, but I don't think Gore is that big of a threat when the ball is dumped off to him. We need a player (like Sproles) that has some dangerous speed and that can make people miss in the open field. When Sproles gets the ball in space, no one has an answer for it. He's too quick and nearly untouchable in the open field. That's something our offense really could use. We don't have that high percentage, dumpoff pass for Alex. The better QBs usually do: Brady-to-Welker, McNabb-to-Westbrook, Peyton-to-Clark, Romo-to-Witten, etc..
Vernon should be that guy for us, but it hasn't happened that way. He isn't the best at getting seperation, unless he's darting the field. Plus, since we lack a deep threat, Vernon has kind of been stuck in the role of stretching the field.
To wrap this up... I think Spiller could fill an important role for us, but I think Best or McCluster could also do the same. Of the three, I think Best has the highest ceiling and is the most talented. His concussions and size are limiting his draft status, but I think he's the most talented RB in this class. Best would be an absolute steal if he's there in the 2nd (I think he'll go in the 1st though). Spiller would be a good pick, but I have doubts about him. He's a better version of Reggie Bush, IMO, but not really a franchise RB. I would prefer not to spend a 1st on him, though I wouldn't complain about the pick. McCluster will struggle running the ball as a traditional RB, but I don't think he'd be drafted for that anyway. He's a 3rd-down RB and someone that could really help a QB in the passing game. That's why I wouldn't touch him before the 3rd. Since we have Gore, I think McCluster would be a solid pick for us.
I've tried to stay out of the whole Siller discussion, but there's my take.
Rant complete! Now, back to my studying.

Yeah, Best is really starting to grow on me at #49. He's the true everydown back we we're looking for the eventually replace Gore, but Gore is only 27 entering this year so we still got another 3 years to really address the Rb situation. But, I'd love Best as a 2nd round pick if SD doesn't take him in the late 1st.

...One more thing, OROY will be Ryan Mathews: He's the best looking RB to be a featured back for a team. He'll get drafted by someone that needs a #1RB and he'll be thrown right into the action. Of the RB projected to go early, he's probably the safest pick this year.
Best value... LaGarette Blount: He's the biggest back to come out and he's just as athletic as the smaller guys. Plus, if we sign Pacman, he'll need a bodyguard. Blount can fill that role for us. He had character issues his entire time in college, but I'm guessing he'll still go somewhere around the 5th round.

Yeah, I'm thinking SD goes Matthews or Best with their first pick, let's hope it Matthews so Best falls to us at #49.

I never said we DONT need an OL upgrade.... What i said was we need Spiller. If we do NOT get Spiller with our first (13) then SEA would have/or have a chance to get a top 5 OL and 1 of the top 3 RB!
I said we NEED help on O. Lineman play on Offense to... And we still have at least 7 other picks in the draft to get help at OL

With Jamal Williams now a Bronco, I wouldn't be surprised if the Chargers went with Cody in the first and RB at 40 if they see value (ie Best or Matthews is still there).

we shouldnt draft a player just so another team cant have him we need to improve our team so we can be the best we can be and in this years draft that means taking an OL so we can go from a bottom 5 OL to a top 15 OL
btw i doubt the hawks take spiller they have needs at OL and passrushing more than RB i have a feeling they take brian price or graham or morgan

Good point, I forgot SD has that 40th pick. They're in good position for either one of Matthews or Best in the 2nd.
