I'm on the fence about Spiller. As a RB, I just don't see where he'd get touches in our offense, since we barely get the ball enough to Gore as is (falling behind quickly and going 3-and-out constantly doesn't help). Not to mention, Gore hasn't been able to do anything behind our crap OL anyways.
But he does have tremendous value in the return game, so....
thats why we can get oline help in fa and in the draft to help out the running gm. once the oline gets solved everything on the offensive side will be very good. we can use spiller like the saints use bush
Might be easier said than done to fix OL through FA. There are a handful of studs, but I get the feeling they will all be re-signed.
But yeah, I don't need to be convinced on Spiller, I just want to know how our OL is gonna get fixed, like everyone else.
Fred,
Exactly right! I am also in agreement to sign Logan Mankins to a big time FA Contract like 7 yr. for 49 million because he is a very good LG, and that is what it takes to get these guys. He also played his ball at Fresno State, I don't know if he is a Northern California native but it does not hurt that he went to school there.
Getting a legit RT, and Lupati would really creat a very good O-Line for us, because personally I think Chilo can just run block, he is garbage overall in the pass game, and you cant have a one dimensional Guard.
Signing Mankins and drafting Lupati prob means Rachal resorts to back up duties for the remainder of his contract.
The more offensive lineman the merrier, because you win in the NFL when you win at the line of scrimmage, and every good team who goes to the Super Bowl, wins at the line of scrimmage, and a starting 5:
Staley - Mankins - Heittman - Lupati - Rookie RT looks good to me.
Now I know two rookies has everyone saying they are unproven but year after year there are teams that get Guards, and RT's that start from day 1, and if we use two or our first 3 or 4 picks we have a good enough shot at getting that kind of talent!

Still, a good draft to me:
1a) Trent Williams, OT
1b) Jerry Hughes, OLB
2) Trevard Lindley, CB
If we had quality OL depth...they would be our starters.

If we can't fill some spots on the OL in free agency I wouldn't mind spend 2 of our 1st 3 picks on it.

I wouldn't mind spending 3 of our first 3 picks on it. I acknowledge the pass rush need and the safety, but with care this could put away the O line for half a decade or more, making our qb's look good, giving our receivers time to get open and arranging 1,500 yd seasons for the runners.

3. Javier Arenas-CB/KR-Alabama
4. Chris Scott-OL-Tennessee
That would be an absolutely sick haul and fairly realistic imo. It sounds like Williams won't be going that high anymore though, and if that's the case I'd like to see us trade back into the 20's to get him and pick up another draft pick along the way. Scott is a guy we should definitely target regardless of who we take early, because he'll end up playing RT or OG in the NFL. The guy is HUGE.
Throw in a FA signing of Atogwe, and that would be a killer offseason.

Seriously, Iupati and Scott as our future OG tandem would make Jimmy Raye wet his adult diapers.

I would like to see Taylor Mays from USC and Ciron Black from LSU with our two first round picks.

Im definately a proponent of going after an interior o-lineman in FA, but Jahri Evans is at the top of my list... The guy is probably the top OG on the market and is a beast in the run game as well as pass protection.

Last thing I heard about him was that the Saints had every intention of re-signing him.

Looks like we will have two picks in the first 15 of next year's draft. That is going to offer a ton of flexibility in what we do, plus the second round will offer value too.
There's no doubt that they need some OL talent, but I think Berry and Mays will be out of reach.

Bulaga and Haden in the first. Then we'll have the chance to finally complete an all-white o-line. staley, baas, heitmann, snyder, bulaga.
