It's good that the Bears reportedly plan to go gaga for Mike Glennon, because the 49ers aren't in the mix. According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, the 49ers will not be pursuing Glennon. While San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has always expressed significant confidence in his right tackle, Mike McGlinchey, fans and analysts have often been less than complimentary while discussing the offensive lineman's career as a whole. In May, the 49ers exercised McGlinchey's fifth-year option, meaning he will be with the team through the 2022 season. Beyond that, who knows? After defending himself against critics for much of last season, McGlinchey eventually admitted that there was room for improvement. "I think there's a lot of things I did really well all year," McGlinchey said in December. "There's things I did a lot better than last year.

New San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel stepped up to the podium after Thursday's training camp practice. "I'm just excited to be here," McDaniel said in his opening comments. "Equally excited for you guys to take in how physically imposing I am." McDaniel is 5-foot-9 and about 180 pounds after lunch. His sense of humor was well-accepted. Questions about rookie Trey Lance quickly presented themselves. The players had about 40 days off before reporting to training camp. By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jalen Hurd is entering his third NFL season. He has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game. Hurd spent the last two seasons on injured reserve. A back injury kept him out of his rookie 2019 campaign. The wideout suffered an ACL injury during training camp last year. The 49ers like what they see in Hurd when he is available. He's just had some unfortunate luck at the start of his NFL career. But — knock on wood — Hurd reportedly looks good in training camp again, and the coaching staff hopes to finally get the former third-round pick on the field this season. "Yeah, we've seen no setbacks," offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel said after practice on Thursday. "Every time he's been on the field, we've
