It seems like he does that occasionally when he comes in and there isn't a save opportunity. Almost like he doesn't concentrate or bear down as much. He hasn't been as sharp as he was last season when he just shut everyone down.

Why was Doval throwing/Bailey calling 3-2 sliders up 10 runs in the 9th inning? Just fire it past the batter FFS.

He's been able to throw sliders for strikes better than fastballs. He has poor control and when he gets them over they're right down the middle. His ERA is approaching 5

Because closers usually thrive off pressure, and with a massive lead they have no pressure and end up sucking. I swear Brian Wilson used to put runners on purposefully to get his adrenaline going.

Just fire it past the batter? You can't just throw it past a decent hitter. They can all hit 100mph pitches if they aren't located well. Pitchers need to be able to throw off speed stuff to keep them off balance. That's been one of Doval's issues this season. His control hasn't been as sharp. He's hanging sliders and grooving fastballs. They've had to use him in non save situations to avoid long stretches of inactivity.

He only played 2 games at 2nd because Ahmed was rehabbing. He's been back at SS the last 3 games.
