If he can stay healthy* is not a caveat I want to hear when talking like 7+ year deals and multiple hundreds of millions.
Obviously injuries can happen to anyone but gimme Yamamoto

that is any player though. If you are worried about injuries and long term contracts, you might as well fully adopt the Farhan one year and an option methodology and we can continue to enjoy missing the playoffs.

Well he better than anyone on the roster right now
the murph and mac question:

do you take door 1: Ohtani

or door 2: Matt Chapman, Snell and Bellinger

Im saying I'd rather go for Ohtani, Lee Jung-hoo, and Yamamoto in terms of priority. But if it's Bellinger or a bunch of one year rehab projects, I would take Bellinger.

Ohtani
I'm just hoping for us fans that the Giants aren't being used to jack offers up. Stanton, then Harper, then Judge has been too much hope being dashed.

Is it a pipe dream to hope we can get multiple pieces? Most likely. But, if what's being said is correct, I do hope the Giants understand the product they've been giving fans has been pitiful and they need to do more than just look as though they tried to sign pieces. It's high time they DO sign guys that will excite the fanbase, and ultimately begin a strong of playoff runs.

Ohtani

Does Ohtani come with then luring Yamamoto as a pitcher that would want to sign here? Cuz the Angels had Ohtani and Trout and got nowhere. And I don't think Ohtani would go to SF if it's just him.

Hopefully, this is why the Giants are hard-pressed to sign others to show Ohtani they're serious about being a contender.

I don't see why the Giants couldn't afford to add-on with the addition of Ohtani. They aren't poor.
But again, same thing with Blake Snell... I'm super skeptical of him - it will be another massive overpay of a guy coming off a cy young with extreme variability in his game. This was the 2nd time in his career he's pitched passed 180 innings. Not a workhorse by any means, which is what I would expect from anyone given what he will command in salary/years. He's also 30. I would stay away.

we are paying close to $40m, on Cobb, DeScla, and Stripling
some real mid tier guys, I would liquidate all those contracts today, and invest the money in a Snell, if one could do so

What do you mean liquidate those contracts? Giants are on the hook for that money no matter if they are on the team or not. I'd rather see if they can add value during the season and yeah if they suck they can get DFA'd.

I said if one could do so, so hypothetically speaking..
I would hate the club to say $40m on those guys is acceptable, but paying market value for an ace is a bridge too far, that's more the point I am making
we need pitching, those guys aren't aces, far from it,

Here comes 2 straight months of pointless debating over Ohtani when he's not coming here.

4-6 years. LOL. He will get way more than that.

Bellinger's first 3 years in the league were amazing. ROY, ASs, and an MVP. In 2020 COVID and a shortened season came and his numbers were just OK. But he was great in the postseason that year for the dodgers. He hurt his shoulder at the end, then played in the WBC and should have got it fixed. Instead, his next year was s**tty with a bunch of trips the DL. He gets his shoulder fixed and gets healthy and he hits .307 with 26 HRs, a bunch of extra base hits, and 20 SBs. And more importantly, played in the most games since his MVP year. And he dropped his SO % way down. His HR numbers were lower but that is because he was hitting the ball more and SOing less, with less velocity.

And he is 28 years old. And he is a plus CF defender.

I am with John. Both Bellinger and Yamamoto are getting around 225-250 million. If the giants are only spending that once, give me the pitcher. If they are spending it twice, give me both. Its not my money.

The biggest thing is can Bellinger stay healthy. If he can, you get a really good CF for years with speed. But that means you have to trade some of our OFers to get other pieces.

When is the last time a huge pitching contract ended up being worth it though?
