2026 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

I am not going to get myself worked up over Ohtani, Yamamoto, Bellinger, etc. I have zero faith we are going to bring anyone in that moves the needle. We are goin to end up with Matt Chapman and Jack Flaherty and have to endure another 4th place NL West finish.

When is the last time a huge pitching contract ended up being worth it though?

What about Nats getting Scherzer
just to provide an example
that was a wonderful contract

Makes me sick. Chapman would be the worst possible FA addition. He's over the hill - not that good and he would block Casey Schmitt. Hard no! Flaherty I would be more open to for the right price/year deal.

Sir, Chapman is a former platinum glove, who can swing the stick and has Bay Area ties
you can find a spot for Schmitty
we need guys like this in the field,

makes you sick, landing real FA targets?

I would like Chapman, Schmitt maybe could be our utility piece,
Schmitt had a WAR in the red, he hit .206
hard to just pencil him in as having 3B locked down, now if he wants to hit, I'm sure we'll find a spot for him in the lineup
I think Chapman will cost too much and not close to the money he will get. Obviously all free agents are typically overpaid but I just dont see him as a difference maker.

I would just say to 99 regarding FA pitchers... how often have 25 year old pitchers with Yamamoto's resume being available in free agency? I think he is much safer than an older FA pitcher that normally becomes available. I am all in on him

I haven't done any research on Yamamoto, but im certainly more open to giving him big money because of his age. I was mainly referencing Snell. IMO giving him big money isn't a good idea.

Because we can't afford to lose decent players. The roster is weak enough already.

Basically expect more platooning.

Yaz is okay if he can stay healthy but Slater is way too strikeout prone. Even Yaz isn't going to put butts i the seats. They need to sign a couple of fairly big names. I'm not in favor of Ohtani because it ties up too much money in one player. They could get 2 or 3 good players that would help the team more.

Slater is a great pinch hitter who can play any OF position. 4 mil is pretty cheap for someone who fills a needed role.
