Seems like the last couple weeks all i have heard is about lebron and is he the greatest ever and the comparisons to MJ. No mention at all about kobe. Do we live in such a now society that everyone has forgotten about a player who just retired last year and used to get compared to MJ all the time. Btw im not a kobe fan

Garbage hot takes by the media. MJ/LBJ garners more attention. MJ is the bonafide goat.

for now

I mean LBJ is great but a lot of people are caught in the moment. I mean as much as I hate Kobe he is ahead of LBJ. I mean if I'm doing the ranking MJ, Kobe, then maybe LBJ. Kobe is much more clutch than LBJ and has more rings. So I'm not really sure why people are overhyping LBJ.

been a Laker fan my whole life, and i didn't like LBJ for many years. i got caught in the Skip Bayless troll job for many years. thankfully i grew up and i don't listen to that garbage anymore. from a talent point of view, LBJ is the best. MJ might still be the GOAT, but that's just because he has the rings.
In regards to Lebron vs Jordan, it would be great if we could somehow swap them around and see if they could be as successful in each other's eras. If I had to place a bet I would probably put money on Lebron being more likely to match his ring total than Jordan because in Lebron's era there have been more legitimate title contenders than in the 1990s when Jordan won his rings. So I suspect Jordan's six rings could easily be halved in Lebron's era, whereas Lebron should still be able to have won a few rings in Jordan's era if not more rings due to the lack of a real contender.

Personally it's hard to judge who is the goat out of those two guys, both were/are great players. If I said Jordan was the GOAT, I'd be ranking Lebron right on his tail, and I'd throw Kobe right on his tail as well - by I could rank them in any order and with a fairly strong argument for any of that three being the GOAT. And that's without considering Magic, Bird, Kareem (etc) being included in the conversation as well. It's really a tough one when it comes down to deciding the GOAT.

Haven't heard serious conversations regarding Kobe since 2010. He had a lot of injuries, zero relevant playoff moments and ended his career on a garbage team. Kobe is an all-time great, but his last 6 seasons have been completely irrelevant. Over a half a decade worth of irrelevant basketball definitely waters down his conversation

Combine that with the fact that even during his two title runs, he was not largely considered the best player in the league. I think most basketball fans outside of LA saw LeBron taking over as the best in the league around the 2008 season and hasn't relinquished that yet (9 years at the top) whereas Kobe might have been the best in the league for a couple years, maybe.
In 2010 kobe was 32. In 2017 lebron is 32. We will see what happens for lebron going forward but not really a valid argument so far

Arguments without fact checking just prove my point

Again, Kobe wasn't even the best player in the league for very long. MJ was, LeBron has been and the fact that LeBron is 32 and is still by far the best player in the world makes the argument for him very valid. But I think Kobe was exceptional and if it was 2011 there may be more discussion about it but for him to have just retired last year and had over a half of decade of irrelevant basketball, I think that watered down his discussion.
Wow wtf?!?

RIP Telfair. Cant take the hood out of some of these fools.

Lonzo Ball
Yes it absolutely has to do with a NOW society. Just look at the fact that nobody pre 1990 is considered in the top 3

btw it goes MJ, Kobe then Lebron(lost far too many titles that cannot be made up for no matter what else he does)

disclaimer, I at least acknowledge that my top 3 is severely inconclusive due to the fact that I don't know enough about the greats beforehand and don't care enough to learn, yet I have the audacity to claim to know who the GOAT is. Furthermore I believe the very concept of a GOAT is sophomoric anyhow.
