Prince isnt exactly tearing the cover off the ball right now. Even if he was, paying obscene money for him wasnt the way to go. No, the Giants should have signed Beltran to a 2 year deal at a FAIR offer ( which is what STL got) especially since they ended up with NOTHING for Wheeler in the long run. They also should have made a deal for Jed Lowrie when he was available as the Astros gave up very little for him. Finally keep Keppinger at a low contract just like he signed with TB as bench help or insurance for Freddy when there was no gurantee he would be ready.

These arent after the fact observations. I wanted all of these at the time. It really was aggravating seeing Jed Lowrie go for so little given our need at SS.

1) Pagan cf
2) Lowrie ss
3) Panda 3b
4) Beltran rf
5) Posey C
6) Cabrera LF
7) Belt 1b
8) Keppinger 2b

Reasonable costs and a MUCH better team.

This is how I deal with rough streaks like these. Frustrated during the game, but use humor afterwards.

Doubtful under your scenario of signing Beltran that both Cabrera and Pagan would be here, although I do agree it would be a much better team if that would have happened. Also, I think all of us were on board before the season with Crawford playing every day this year regardless of what he could hit because we felt his defense would make up for the lack of offense. Hasn't happened yet; maybe it will. Keppenger could hit, but could only play one position 2B because he doesn't have nearly the range or the arm to play SS or 3B. Theriot can play either one if needed. Plus Keppenger was an absolute slug, so I wasn't sad to see him go. I thought that the Giants would have wanted Fontenot instead of Theriot, but I think it just came down to the fact that Theriot is right handed.

No. Not all of us were on board with Crawford playing everyday. I was PISSED when Jed went to Houston. I also know that Niners99 was advocating signing Rollins which I was not for. Lowrie would have been a great solution. The kid can play. Keppinger can certainly play 3B. You dont have to have great range to play there. He also was excellent insurance for a team that needs hitting badly and whose second baseman wasnt ready to play. Keppinger is such a slug that TB, the best team in baseball right now, signed him up for their team. Keppinger is better than both Theriot and Fontenot (who cant even find a job in the majors).
