I hear you. And I am not saying its doomsday. But the writing is on the wall for this to be a problem all year. I mean, really break it down....

Again, I hear what you are saying dc. I totally do. But all the signs point to a long season. Could we turn it around? Absolutely! It just doesnt look like it will happen.

I'm just confused about our hitting being a problem for like, what, 10 years now? wtf!

This does sum things up quite well. Of course it isnt doomsday and it is early. However, when you look at things from a non-biased view it does not look great at all. Injuries to Panda, Wilson, and Freddy obviously have hurt the team. Really good teams are able to overcome injuries to key players and have other guys step up. Look at what TB is doing without Longoria. That does take a very good bench or a minor league system that can contribute productive players right away. The Giants simply do not have that.

The positive thing is the Giants dont play in the strongest division and that their pitching is good enough to keep them from long slumps. I just question where this team is going to get ANY power production at all. It is very tough winning every game with 3 runs or less.

this is what needs to be done. Belt at 1st EVERYDAY, he can PICK IT! Best Defensive option, gets days off when hector catches and posey plays 1st. None of this right hand pitching crap! Pagan goes to LF, Melky to CF. Melky gets a better read on the ball, runs a better route to the ball and has a cannon! Pagan in LF, Nate (and some blanco) in RF. That gives us our best outfield for D and prob offensive production if and when nate finds his swing. Huff and Pill will come off the bench as needed. Ryan Theriot should never be batting 2nd nor should Gillaspie!!!

The problem I have with Bochy is theres no consistency. Burris and Theriot, Craw and Arias, everyday someone new is in there. Might be making it hard on these guys to get settled! I really like Arias as SS. He made some nice picks last night and has more pop in his bat than Crawford, who GOT SUCK!

Line-up needs to be:

Pagan (lf)
Arias (ss)
Cabrera (cf)
Posey(c)
Belt(1b)
Nate (rf)
Gillaspie (3d)
theriot/burris(2b)
pitcher

I know the back end of that lineup is terrible but with the loss of Pablo, it is what it is. Thoughts? I like arias up there cause of his speed.

and of course there's the elephant in the room: Buster Posey really struggling as the cleanup hitter and nearly all of the burden falling on his shoulders right now. He's been struggling a bit as of late IMO, and I think he's pressing

I don't think anyone is worried about it being doomsday, but yesterday was one of those games that makes your head spin. I'm going tonight so wish me luck.

Agreed that yesterday was a real b***h of a game. I'm not as down on the team right now as many are...we simply have to hold our water until Panda gets back, and I think we will do just that. I really don't put a whole lot of stock in what the so called "experts" think of our minor league system...two years ago nobody would have thought that Belt would be a contributer. Last year everybody was calling on Sanchez to be on the team; here he is and a lot of people are complaining now that he can't play. The bottom line is that nobody really knows at this time of year who will end up being a contributor or not, either this season or in the future. Nobody had us winning in 2010 in September; nobody had the Cardinals winning last September either. So please everybody just let the season play out since it is barely one month old before hitting the "oh no" button. The defense will improve as we head into summer, and I'm confident that the offense will as well.

The Giants should end the first base experiment with Posey, or the thought of him playing any other position for the next 10 years. He is a catcher...simple as that. He's healthy, and he should be treated just like any other catcher. Don't catch on a day game following a night game, etc. but other than that, he squats. And the Hector Sanchez personal catcher BS for Zito is just that...BS. If you are Steve Carlton you warrant a personal catcher like Tim McCarver was. Barry Zito doesn't get one. Let Posey play his position, and stop with the overprotection. Let him get his head straight playing one spot, and then he can concentrate on hitting.

Posted this on April 8th after the sweep by the Dbacks. The writing was on the wall then and nothing has improved. Watching all the mistakes being made on defense is the most frustrating part of the season so far to me. And if they argument is they are sacrificing d at some positions for more offense, where the hell are the runs?!

I doubt that. I'm pretty sure 127 million dollars and the largest contract for any RH pitcher in the game isnt having him kick himself.

There is merit to that. He looked much more comfortable when he had Pablo there. Now he does look to be pressing. Could be a minor slump though. I would have rather saw him as a 3 hole type guy, but he can pretty much do it all. Pablo really isnt a four hitter either IMO. But the two of them together was much more intimidating for a pitcher to face. I also like Schier in the 5 instead of Belt. Put Belt in the 6th.
