This is exactly right. Was telling my son the same thing. Used to be able pitch from the starter to the bullpen, and helped it with good defense and occasional timely hitting. Now we just have starting pitching, romo, horrible defense, and AAA hitting mixed with Melky, Posey and Pagan.

Only because he had an off year last season, he was #8 at the begining of last year. His bat might be back this season, has 5 HRs this season, guy just needs to cut down on his K's.

Doomsday is upon us. Everyone freak out.

I'm not freaking out, but it is somewhat worrysome. I mean last year I swore AZ wouldn't keep up their pace and they did, they look just as good this year and the dodgers are looking good too. We need to step up sooner rather than later

I'm not freaking out either...but I think until we are healthy, we are in for .500 ball. That doesnt cut it. You dont suck playing .500 ball, but you ain't winning the division.

I agree. It isn't time to freak out but the picture isnt rosy thats for sure. I think the Giants are in the bottom 10% in all of baseball at 2B, SS, 3B (with Panda out) and possibly RF. At 1B they are certainly in the bottom 30%. To make matters worse, there is NOTHING in the minors even close to being ready to come up and help and outside of Gary Brown NO elite players whatsoever. This falls on the shoulders of Sabean. He has simply made bad decisions in free agency and the Giants farm system is in the bottom third in baseball.

With their pitching the Giants can certainly compete but I doubt at this point it will be enough to win this division.

I was actually embarrassed watching the game last night. Our offense is a joke once again (unfortunately called this one before the season started), our bullpen is all of a sudden suspect (couldnt have predicted this one), our defense is the worst in the entire league (or this one), and our starters are fine (like every year).

This has all the makings of a looooooong season. SMH.

You're right on all counts, for this year. However, as much as fans hate to see this approach, the good that is coming out of this is the playing time the youngsters are getting. Again, nobody wants to see a development year, but that's what this is turning into. We're used to guys like Cain, Weezy, Romo, Timmy, Buster, Panda, Posey and MadBum come up and contribute right away at a very high level, but this new batch of youngsters aren't as talented and clearly need more time to develop...unfortunately, they've been thrown in to the fire and having to develop at the major league level which can be a brutal experience (as we're all starting to see).

But again, the good that can come out of this is a guy like Belt getting his legs under him and learning to hit/hit with power at the majors, prospects like Sanchez, Crawford, Pill, Gillaspie, Burriss, Edlefsen, Otero (eventually Brown, Hembree, maybe Keishnick), taking their lumps and being better major leaguers for it.

You're right about Sabes in that there's no REAL impact player in the minors, and nobody even ready to SLIGHTLY help this team other than the guys already called up (and they are highly questionable). The good that could come out of this year though is seeing what we have in these young guys, which means it wouldn't be a complete waste.

I hear what you are saying, but this should NOT have been a year that we would watch our young players get a ton of PT and try to develop at the Major League level. Again,we have the pitching built to win the World Series (for the 4th year in a row), and once again an offense that is completely holding this team back (3rd time in 4 years). To me, this demonstrates a complete and total failure by our general manager and ownership group. Watching this AAA lineup with a few real Major Leaguers sprinkled in is NOT going to cut it.

You're right, this shouldn't be a year of development...but it's starting to turn into one. Heads should definitely roll, not doubt about it.

I don't think anyone is worried about it being doomsday, but yesterday was one of those games that makes your head spin. I'm going tonight so wish me luck.
